Draft Day Steals

Okay, this is not an opportunity to pimp your team's low round picks - but, which teams do you think got a 'steal' in the draft based on where you thought they would go? Not looking for guys you think landed where they were 'expected' to. Gonna ignore the biggest steal of the whole draft, in Courtney Upshaw landing to the Ravens in the 2nd - because that'll de-reail the whole thread.

A few that caught my eye:

Mohamed Sanu (Cincinnati Bengals) - 3rd Round

Seemed like a high 2nd rounder for me. The Bengals have an excelled OC in Jay Gruden and I think he'll be an excellent foil for AJ Green playing the big man in the slot role. He's a match-up nightmare if Cincinnati get it right.

Ronnell Lewis (Detroit Lions) - 4th Round

Man, another solid 2nd rounder, possibly fell because of character concerns. But, this is one mean kid - hits like a truck, makes plenty of stops in the backfield.

Bobby Massie (Arizona Cardinals) - 4th Round

Another I had a solid 2nd round grade on, possibly saw him as the best right-tackle prospect in the draft. He did a number on a few of the rated rushers in the draft, so surprising he fell to the 4th.

Jared Crick (Houston Texans) - 4th Round

I had a solid 2nd round grade on Crick, but thought he might fall into the 3rd as seem more suited to End in a 3 man front. His production was expected to drop when Suh left for the NFL - but he maintained his production levels before injury cut short last season. Wad Phillips will love this guy's motor.

DeQuan Menzie (Kansas City Chiefs) - 5th Round

A lot of observers thought this guy was the best corner in Alabama last year, many had him pegged as the best slot guy in the draft. Slow 40 time dropped his stock, but plays with good game speed. Thought he was a riser coming in and could have gone 2nd/3rd round.

Marvin McNutt (Philadelphia Eagles) - 6th Round

Big, physical receiver with ridiculous production in college. He probably wouldn't get much in the way of seperation, but he's a canny receiver who makes catches in tight windows and will be a red-zone threat in Philly - much better 3rd receiver compliment to the speed guys on the outside than Jason Avant and Riley Cooper. Thought he'd go 3rd/4th round.

Antonio Allen (New York Jets) - 7th Round

A real old-school big, nasty physical safety who excels in run support. He's a bit of a linebacker/safety tweener and might struggle in coverage - but could find package time in the Jets D as a hitter in the box. He could be a beast on Special Teams. Thought he'd go 3rd-5th.

Trevor Guyton (Minnesota Vikings) - 7th Round

Not sure about a fit in Minnesota, seems more of a five technique - but could be a nice run stopper on the edge. He's not a rusher and could possibly slide over to tackle too. I think he could play a few roles along the D-line. Rated him as a 4th-5th round prospect.

Maybe not right now, but i think Greg Childs has a chance to be one of the bigger steals in the draft.

I also think Alphonso Dennard must be mentioned here.

Alameda Ta'amu - his undewear olympics were almost as good as Poe's, but unlike Poe, he actually had some game tape to point to when you say "that's what his ceiling looks like".

I'm confident that John Mitchell and - LeBeau will get "2010 Nebraska bowl game" play out of him a lot more often

Wasn't drafted but Chris Polk

Also I think the Titans got a steal with Markelle Martin. He was a late 2nd-3rd round prospect before hurting his knee. I wouldn't be suprised to see him start some games this year. Unlike Griffin, Martin likes to hit.

Looking at the long-term future, the Texans have 6 great pieces in there front 7. Reed, Barwin, and Mercilus is a scary three-headed pass rushing monster, provided Mercilus pans out. Cushing is a helluva player. Watt has also already shown to be a helluva player and I think Crick will be a very good to great starter once the DE in place leaves (I forget his name).

6 great young pieces. Crick was a steal. The Texans are building up their best young talents where it matters the most; on guys that harrass the QB.
