I think we have some guys, like you said that would be successful in a 1 gap 3-4. Again, Reggie knows what he's doing and what type of personnel that we need for our scheme more than us. |
Imo, I think McKenzie realized he couldn't address every weakness in a draft with so few draft picks. I think he wanted to make sure they did everything possible to put Palmer in the best situation.
Chapman, who was a heavy pre-draft favorite, is hardly 400lbs. Nor, is he ready day 1. I thought Chapman was a smart pick if you took a long-term view. Assuming that a NT has to be north of 350lbs is that exact same flawed argument that assumes TK could play NT. There is nothing in TK's skill set that suggests NT except his size.
Should the Raiders go 34 I look forward to seeing Seymour and TK at DE and I could envision Houston as a smaller NT as run defense seems his forte. |
been thinking about this for a while. I think he has the discipline to be a nt. |
+1. Strong against the run, projected to be an inside D-lineman prior to the draft. I would like to see him given a shot. A front three of:
Kelly-Houston-Seymour would be interesting to watch. |

Yeah, Houston is another guy who could be a one gap NT.
LE - Kelly/Bilukidi/Hamilton
NT - Houston/Ivey
RE - Seymour/Bryant/Crawford
LOLB - Curry/Burris/Kurn
LILB - McClain/Goethel
RILB - Wheeler/Stupar
ROLB - Shaughnessy/Tollefson/Ihenacho/Burnett |

So if he is willing to use Kelly in that spot I would assume Bilukidi and Hamilton will train as the backups.
Edit: sounds like Allen hits at that in the interview.
"ALLEN: Yeah, you’ve got to have one of those guys. And I think we’ve got a couple guys on the team that have the versatility that they could be a 4-3 nose and a 3-4 nose.
-Q: Seems like a couple of those athletic guys you drafted could play the line in either scheme…
-ALLEN: Absolutely.

Maybe Hamilton on the nose. But Bilukidi's skillset is more of a 5 technique rusher and not just a space eater. _________________

| I think he could do it if he set's his mind to it and embraces the role. He is about 30 years old or around it and this could possibility prolong his career. |

There's no way we change to the 3-4 this quickly. Maybe next year or the year after, but it wouldn't be smart too make the change right now IMO. Changing the base formation in a defense should be a gradual process as the right players/staff are brought in. I don't think we have enough 3-4 guys right now to make the change so fast. _________________ (MLB)=A's, (NFL)=Raiders, (NBA)= Warriors
