Vikings QBs coach Craig Johnson believes Christian Ponder has advanced "light years" this offseason.
"(A lot) of the problems that you find out as a young player, that's when you get a chance to work on them is usually in the first offseason afterwards," Johnson said. "... The game is starting to slow down. That's what you look for." Ponder should progress as a sophomore, but is unlikely to be anything more than a low-end QB2 from a fantasy perspective. He's sandwiched between Sam Bradford and Alex Smith in Rotoworld's rankings.

but, but, but...its the offseason
so every problem from last year is just magically played down this time of year.
Dig I get that part right?

In all seriousness, this is very good news. I'm excited to watch Christian start for us. |
Did you really just poke fun at other posters' gripes concerning the offseason when you had nothing of substance to post yourself? Was that necessary? Try re-reading the second part of your post; the one you wrote "in all seriousness," and ask yourself if you actually added anything worthwhile. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to mock (and don't even bother saying that you aren't mocking anything; the first part of your post is a clear testament to it). _________________

^^ yeah, i gotta agree.
Steve, you use sarcasm a lot, thinking it's humorous. but it's usually at someone else's expense and often isn't really their point of view anyway. in our never ending attempt for the Clan to help with your maturation process, you might want to examine whether it's worth it or not to write that way. _________________

Its nice to hear what some of the coaches have to offer about Ponder. I trust when they say he's progressing. I'd like to watch him continue to grow as a QB.
Craig Johnson has had his fair share of QBs to work with, right? He also worked in Tennesse with Vince Young, no?
I wonder how he feels how these 2 progressed after their 1st year in the league. _________________

Christian Ponder first and foremost needs to start looking after the football.
He can try to make a career out of throwing the ball into tight coverage but it won't be a very long career. _________________

Yeah, defiantly agreed. But I'd rather have him take risks early and learn from it instead of being dump off king. _________________ The Heist. |

Wow, been away for a while, and steve is still the only member I know on this forum that everyone knows by his actual name an dnot his moniker, sorry but this just makes me laugh.
As to Christian I do believe it is a welcomed sight to see a quarterback be verbal in his leadership role in this offense, we need someone who will command these guys and be a presence and a focal point to this team, if his play progresses and he turns out to be the quarterback we all hoped then we have something to hope for and build upon. _________________

So I suppose we can call the search team off now. Welcome back! _________________

Ponder: "My rookie year was pretty rough in a lot of ways. But I'm definitely glad I got on the field. The biggest thing was getting all that film of myself and being able to watch the mistakes I made. Going back, there are so many blatantly dumb mistakes that are easily correctable. That's the kind of thing that makes me excited about this season."

Hopefully Christian gets alot of playing time in the preseason games.
I'd want to make sure he is as comfortable as possible before we open up the regular season. _________________

He might get more work than a regular starting QB, but I still don't think he'll play any longer than a quarter in the first couple of games. _________________

I will be shocked if Ponder is placed in anything other than highly favourable situations in preseason. _________________

Being a Viking is always a highly favourable situation in my book.

You mean in a position to not be throwing a lot of interceptions. Short, safe checkdowns.
Well, I don't expect us to go Full Playbook on any team, but I don't think we are going to put ourselves in that position.
Really, I just want to see what he can do with what we are giving him. I don't see it being any different for Blaine Gabbert, Andy Dalton, Jake Locker and Cam Newton. _________________

Yes.
And I don't imagine that Ponder is going to see a lot of snaps against the 49ers' or Texans' starters.
It's all going to be an exercise in avoiding any QB controversy prior to the start of the season. _________________
