http://seattlesportsnut.com/seattle-seahawks-quarterback-competition-breakdown/
Comprehensive breakdown of each players background. Too long to quote, but worth the click. Combine, draft, coolege and pro information in detail inside
| Quote: | | Here in Seattle, we have whats known as a QB competition. Usually its between one starter, and one backup that’s poised with enough experience and knowledge to take the starters spot. Last year, the Seahawks had no competition as Tarvaris Jackson was named the starter due to the lockout and his knowledge of the Darrell Bevell offense. This year, things are different. The Seahawks still have Jackson, but they brought in a high-profile free agent named Matt Flynn, and they also drafted a rookie, Russell Wilson. This will be a comparison article on how each player has evolved into who they are right now for the Seahawks. |

I don't think any player would say one was playing much better than the other until a starter is named. Additionally I would expect TJax to thrive more when he doesn't have to make a play call or read much of a defense, or make a pressure throw like in OTAs. Flynn's greatest strengths are his accuracy and intangibles- these will separate him by the time we get to pre-season if Baldwin isn't just giving reporters lip service (which I suspect he would have to). _________________

bad news guys....i hope he's just feedin a facade |
Well Flynn is coming into a new system, and Jackson has way more actual playing experience than Flynn. I wouldn't worry about it just yet. _________________

Yea, and everyone likes Tarvaris on the team. Why would anyone say he's clearly worse. _________________

This is the NFL and if Matt Flynn was out performing TJ it would be said. |

That's not true at all. Herm Edwards was actually just talking about this yesterday on ESPN and I'll definitely take his word for it. He said if a team is having a QB competition, the first thing the head coach says before they start any drills is to stay on the fence about any competition and let the coaches make the decision. Doug Baldwin is doing exactly what any other intelligent player would do. _________________

Thats a much better reason then everyone likes TJ.
I think I would like to hear that Flynn has the edge or performing a bit better. Especially when Flynn is expected to be the starter. Baldwin wouldnt be throwing TJ under the bus by talking about how good Matty looks. I think its a bad sign. Players still behind TJ and Matty isn't quite up to par. |

I think some of us are reading way to into these comments for how early it is. We're still in June people.
This is how talking to the media works. You don't say what you actually think, you give the most politically correct answer and walk away. Plus, if Tarvaris ended up winning the job and Doug was saying how he likes Flynn better, Doug would look pretty stupid. _________________

All 3 quarterbacks split first team reps today
This comptetition is real IMO. Matt flynn may be secretly favored, but all QBs are getting a fair shot. This is much different from last offseason _________________

I don't think Flynn is secretly favored, Pete will start the best QB regardless of money or draft position. _________________

This is much different from last offseason | The competition is a fraud if you ask me, purely a psychological move by Pete giving the popular and prideful Jackson some respect, that's all. Reps are important and if he continues this dog and pony show when camp opens, it's a mistake IMO. Why is Jackson getting any reps? Wilson should be ahead of him for christ sakes. I bet Jackson has always looked good in PRACTICE, but what happens on Sunday's? He is what he is and will never improve, a stop gap and that's all. He's always had trouble with the blitz and reading defenses, had his true shot last year and failed. You don't go out and get two QB's if you think Jackson's your guy. Again, why is this guy getting first team reps when you have a rookie that needs to get up to speed. As for Flynn, don't worry about the playbook, Bevell's scheme is very similar to Green Bay's, think Favre in Minny, why he wanted to go there...similar schemes. |

I'll be honest, I'm starting to become scared of what's going to happen at this position. I've been in concrete agreement with the poster above me but Pete sounds so serious I don't wanna buy his crap but he polishes it and sells it like a chocolate pie. _________________
