I actually think this would be a really solid pickup. I'm still concerned about the lack of a #3 guy right now, I'd be weary of guys like LaQuan and Tandon possibly having to man that spot. Jones would give us another guy who can get deep and he's another body to consider for the return specialist gig.
Update: Signed

He's officially a Raven per Aaron Wilson, Vonta Leach and Bernard Pollard lol (Leach and Pollard of course were teammates with Jones when they were in Houston), 2yrs 7mil. |

Ehh...
We were talking about this a bit in the free agency thread when it was reported that he visited the team. From a purely physical perspective Jones is what the Ravens need on offense but he hasn't been consistent at all. I wouldn't trust him as the kick or punt returner either. |

Great signing. A sure boost for the return game; if he can be a solid #3 receiver all the better. _________________

So basically we went from having a bunch of short slow guys with hands a few years ago... to a bunch of tall fast quys with no hands... go figure.
Maybe if Jacoby and Streeter go to the same WR academy for catching, we'll finally have that elite WR we've been searching for...
On another note, what's the over/under for how many end-arounds Cam Cameron has him run? _________________

Diamond the end around jokes left with Stallworth lol, Cam loves tall fast WRs (big throwing to big is his motto). Jones and Streeter may not have the best hands in the world but if their size and speed helps open the middle of the field for Boldin/Dickson/Pitta and allows Torrey Smith to be more dangerous then that's a plus. |

For a #3 WR I think we could do a lot worse. I wonder if one of Doss or Williams don't make the team. 6 WRs is a lot. _________________

I have mixed feelings on this signing. On one end, I like him as our return guy. On the other end, his hands are a little sketchy. Fact remains, he is a guy they will be forced to cover deep along with Torrey Smith. If those two guys can play on the outside and Boldin can be moved to the slot? That would have me feeling better about this

Torrey Smith had catching issues coming out. Our staff seemed to get it under control for the most part last season. Maybe with the right coaching and working with Flacco, we can make Jacoby a more reliable passing threat. _________________

We had 6 WRs last year (Boldin, Smith, Evans, Reed, Doss, Williams). |

Love the signing. It does make me wonder if we let a WR go. I like Laquan and Tandon and think both could be solid possession receivers and would like to keep them on the roster. At the end of the day I think we keep 6 and David Reed is the odd man out. |

I think David Reed's days as a Raven could be over (injuries could change that). I would like to also add that Jones did have 4 catches for 76 yards including a 32 yard jumpball TD catch over Ed Reed in the regular season game against the Ravens (of course the Ravens won the game). |

Too much money. Not a bad pickup, but $7 million over 2 years feels like far too much for a mediocre receiver. Solid returner, but he has some consistency issues, as we well know from his muff against us in the playoffs.
I don't know what our entire cap situation is like, but I can't imagine someone like Andre Carter still sitting on the open market and coming back from injury would have cost that much more, and he would have been a terrific short-term replacement for Suggs.
Would have liked this move for cheaper, but after seeing the contract details, I'm not a big fan. _________________ "The really important kind of freedom involves attention, and awareness, and discipline, and effort, and being able truly to care about other people and to sacrifice for them, over and over, in myriad petty little unsexy ways, every day.” |

Maybe but Gary Kubiak is known for being a quality mind, I'd have to think if it can be taught... he could do it. Either way I do tend to agree that at the very least signing Jones gives us another big speedy option to utilize in our passing attack especially considering just how raw Tommy Streeter could possibly be. And he'd also present us with experienced depth behind Torrey Smith just in case of injury. I don't expect much, but maybe he'll exceed my expectations. _________________

He's not a horrible WR, he's tall and fast which Cam loves in his WRs (Malcom Floyd), his size and speed alone makes the offense better. Jones is also a good returner despite his playoff gaffe against us. Andre Carter may not be fully healthy right now so he might still be in a waiting mode, once he's fully healthy he'll put himself out there and I'm sure the Ravens will kick the tires, practice patience (more fans need to be patient). |
