Quote:
CLEVELAND (AP) Kyrie Irving began his first pro season as the top pick and ended it as the top rookie.

Cleveland's smooth, playmaking point guard has been chosen as the NBA''s Rookie of the Year, a person familiar with the voting told the Associated Press on Sunday.

Irving's selection is hardly a surprise since the 20-year-old led all first-year players in scoring - 18.5 points per game - and renewed hope for Cleveland's franchise. He'll receive the award on Tuesday, said the person who spoke on condition of anonymity because the league has not yet announced the winner.

No surprise here. Congrats to Kyrie and the Cavs organization!

No surprise at all after the season he had. I was shocked he was as good as he was though. Was worried about him leaving Duke

I wasnt surprised at how good he played, because I was expecting that kind of production from him...in year 2 or 3 lol im was surprised how good he was so quick!!!

IMO his floor is being a top5 PG, will most likely become the top PG or at least #2 PG in the league

He'll probably be the #3 PG, behind Paul and Williams. Rose's career will be over due to injury eventually and Westbrook is a selfish chucker. Irving is a boss.

I was suprised as well. He looked like a ten year vet out there. He's a terrific player for the Cavs to build around. Congrats to him on an outstanding rookie campaign.

Has Rajon Rondo retired?

Has Rajon Rondo learned how to shoot?

That said, I agree that he should be in the discussion, but I doubt he'll ever be top 2-3 for me since you practically don't need to guard him outside of 15-20 feet.

Nope. Irving will be better than Rondo, there's no doubt in my mind about that. Irving's game is silky smooth, he'll have no weakness in his game. He'll be like Chris Paul, not sure if he'll be quite that great, but Irving is going to be elite.
