Florida State Board of Trustees Chairman Andy Haggard puts the ACC and its new TV deal on blast :

On the new TV deal
Quote:
"It's mind-boggling and shocking," said Haggard. "How can the ACC give up third tier rights for football but keep them for basketball?" "It continues the perception that the ACC favors the North Carolina schools," noted Haggard

On keeping up with TV deals
Quote:
"With the SEC making the kind of money it does it's time to act," said Haggard. "You can't sit back and be content in the ACC. This is a different time financially. This isn't 10-15 years ago when money was rolling in."

On the Big 12
Quote:
"How do you not look into that option," asked Haggard. "On behalf of the Board of Trustees I can say that unanimously we would be in favor of seeing what the Big 12 might have to offer. We have to do what is in Florida State's best interest."

There's been smoke around these rumors for a couple months now, but this was the first public acknowledgment from anyone at FSU that they are in fact exploring their options. Sounds like Realignment Round III is just around the horizon.

The ACC is hard enough for them.

Something to keep in mind is that FSU's athletic department is $2.4 million in the red and they just cut (IIRC) around $60 mill in academic spending, so suffice it say money is an issue right now.

Jimbo Fisher weighs in...

There have been no official talks, but I think you always have to look out there to see what's best for Florida State. If that [jumping to the Big 12] is what's best for Florida State, then that's what we need to do.

Do it....do it....

At this point I think it's just going to be like SEC, Big Ten, Pac 12, Big XII super conferences with the east coast teams from the ACC and the Big East merging to a football only conference.

About a 1% chance. Wish this topic wasn't made, he's not even saying they're looking into it, and simply posting this is going to get everyone riled up about conference realignment.

GET TO PROM1!!!11
jk

We'll see. I don't see them making a lot in the Big XII anyway, more than the ACC, but if they're looking to make a lot of money, they should try to garner interest from the B1G or SEC.

Leave in 18 Cool

Wait doesn't the SEC have like a silent deal about adding in-state rivals of teams. Isn't that why Clemson, Miami, and FSU aren't in the SEC?

Yes you need 3 teams to veto a team getting in and UGA, USC, & UF have a agreement to block FSU, GT, & Clemson

If FSU does this that means they lose the Rivalry with Miami and Florida? I know Florida won't want them in the SEC but that would probably be Best for FSU I just think being in the Big 12 and the fact that it's all Offense and no Defense I just don't see the FSU fitting in there. I don't think the Realignment is over yet, What is going to happen to the Big East and the fact that half is Football and half is Basketball. I think there will be Super Conferences and the major ones like ACC/Big 12/B1G/SEC/Pac 12 will all go to 14 Teams.

It just a matter of time if you ask me...

All you need to know is two things:
1. ACC is a basketball conference and FSU is a football school.
2. Money>>>Logistics

The ACCs new contract maxs out at $16 mill per school, with tier 3 revenue distributedly evenly, minus the basketball revenue. The new Big 12 deal will pay off $20 mill per school just in tier 1 and 2 revenue and that baseline $20 mill is projected to increase an additional $2 mill for each school added, and in event FSU does join they won't join by themselves and at least one other school will be added bringing the B12 back to 12 schools. Having 12 schools brings a conference championship back into the equation which will generate another 4-5 mill. So you're looking at atleast $28 million in tier 1 and 2 revenue alone. You figure FSU could get at least another $4-5 mill for their tier 3 rights (for comparisons sake Texas makes $24m and Florida makes $11m off their tier 3 rights, so 4-5 is being a bit conservative) which would take their overall bottom line to over $30million per year.

Long story, yes they'd make an [inappropriate/removed] ton of money in the Big 12.
