Saw that online, actually; pretty amazing.

Meh, knowing Pete Carrol I'm not surprised. He's known for loving intense competition... making no ones job "safe". What better way to bring out the best in Flynn & Jackson by having a rookie right up there with them? Not saying Wilson hasn't been impressive, but there's no way in hell he'll start over Flynn.

Agree with you there.

Russel Wilson was a top 5 selection if he was 3 inches taller. Not all that surprising to me.

On Arizona;

Jamell Fleming Impressed;

Quote:
"I don't remember (Fleming) making a mental mistake, which was great," he said. "We're going to start throwing more things at him, but he has the demeanor of an NFL guy. He reminds me of Patrick [Peterson]. He came in and said: 'O.K., this is what I am. I'm a pro football player.'"

I don't think any rookie can impress in May. The rookie minicamps are basically glorified walkthroughs against players who mostly won't be on NFL 53s in a few months. If they can walk and chew gum at the same time right now they'll be "impressive." Just my two cents.

THIS.

To the contrary, first impressions are long impressions. What rookies do in orientation OTA will effect their whole career.

For example, Jamaal Charles was the bomb in his first OTA, because of the speed he showcased. At the time, he was just one of three 3rd round picks, and most of the attention was focused on the two first rounders. The buzz was about JC started this early. At the other extreme, Jamarcus Russell developed a reputation for being difficult this quickly.

That being said, it is hard to see from the outside. You can get a better idea of which late round and UDFA have a chance of contributing.

J

I don't know man, that's kinda weak. Charles made a positive first impression in OTAs with his speed? If the Chiefs didn't know he was fast months before that OTA, they're morons. That's not a first impression made in mini-camp.

I saw some nice reports on a few Cardinal players from this past weekends mini-camp but it doesn't mean much. There's only 40 some odd guys there, it's half speed, no contact, 5 practices in all. There's not much info to be gained on anybody under those conditions. I remember reading that after his first two OTA sessions with the team, Daryl Washington was struggling just to get lined up correctly. He's one of our better young players now. You see what they look like when they come in, give them a list of a few things to work on technique wise and stength and conditioning wise, then you come back in a month and see if they've actually taken that advice to heart. That's about all these mini-camps can accomplish.

Just the top picks for Green Bay. No one else has really gotten a lot of hype out of rook camp.

Agreed, I think he will win the job and I think Carroll thinks he will as well.

Don't get me wrong, I love Wilson as a prospect, but aren't there only rookies, sophomores, and a few low-level veterans at minicamps? If that's the case, then Wilson hasn't competed against any legitimate roster talent and hasn't gone up against Jackson or Flynn yet.

I just think the Wilson hype is a little premature.

I believe only rookies, practice squad eligibility players and players on try outs were allowed. Sophomores definitely weren't allowed.

Jim Wyatt(Titans writer) tweeted Kendall Wright looked as advertised, fast and elusive with good hands. Wyatt said Taylor Thompson impressed him the most but said it was still to early. Also said everybody looked very fast which is what we were looking for. Here's the quote on Taylor Thompson....

Quote:
But I was impressed with his athleticism during a brief look on Friday. Thompson caught the ball well, and he can run. He’s tall (6-6) but at 259 pounds he’s well-built.

I'm basing this off his college career, not the mini-camp.

I don't think he wins the job, but it should be no surprise to anybody who studied this kid in college that he has elevated himself into a competiion for the starting job.

Yea it's Flynn's job to lose i could see Wilson beating out Tarvaris Jackson for the backup spot though.
