I was curious about how good Brandon Weeden is as I didnt see him much in college so I started watching his youtube cut ups. For those not familiar, youtube has many game videos of prospects that show, in the case of a QB, every passing play in a game, good or bad. It is much more useful than watching a highlight reel.

Anyway, more than any other top QB I can remember watching, Weeden seems to lock onto WRs and seems almost incapable of going through progressions. For example, watch his passing plays against Texas last season:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsevlHpqatI

Watch Weeden's head when he gets the ball. On every play other than 3 in the entire game, Weeden only looks at one target before delivering the ball. When he does have to look at a secondary target, because his primary is blanketed, he makes bad decisions. At 2:05 he throws a near pick after having to go to his secondary target. And at 6:06 he takes a bad sack after having to go to his secondary target.

And this pattern is consistent in all of the games that I have watched. Watch him against Iowa St.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YsevlHpqatI

Again. On almost every play he looks at 1 target and then fires. When he has to look at a second target the results are bad.

at 0:01 low throw resulting in INC.
at 0:58 bad incomplete
at 1:10 interception throwing to a blanketed WR.

I know that Weeden played in a simple, one-read offense that tried to get one man open and have the QB look at primary target first and foremost. So its not like Weeden was asked to read coverages. But if he wasnt ever successful finding the open man among several targets, because he was never asked to, why would the Browns think he will be successful doing it at the pro level?

I think that's what many of us were asking ourselves.

there's a reason they're 68-140 since they were 'reborn' in 1999. Mind-numbingly horrible draft decisions like this are near the top of the list.

and had the cowboys in the hunt for the national title sans an emotionally charged Iowa state game where college coaches died that day.

oh and maybe they see rifleman like accuracy Wink

you can teach him not to stare targets down. you can't teach arm strength and accuracy.

Tebow beat Matt Stafford and Sam Bradford in college. Means nothing.

I didn't see great accuracy. I also saw a QB from a gimmicky offense that didn't read coverage well, struggled with his pocket presence and didn't go through progressions.

I see a bust.

There probably isn't one guy whose ever played QB,, HS, College or the Pros that didn't have a bad game. Texas was Weedens. Doesn't sound like a sound way of looking at anyone.

He has anticipation , and can lead a receiver. He is able to make a throw before the receiver makes his break. He is accurate

I see an uninformed poster. the guy threw into tight windows and made ALL the NFL throws. You say he stared down targets, I say so that is correctable and coachable flaw.

Ah...so are you looking at yourself? Because you're certainly not looking at me. I have no doubt that I'm MUCH more informed than you are.

Threw into tight windows? Laughing

Google "watch football games" and you'll see what you're supposed to do...rather than rely on the opinions of others.

Yep. I actually make an effort to watch players play rather than make assumptions based on internet scouting reports.

But hey, really surprising that Browns fans are defending this pick.

I'm not defending the pick at all. I think he will be a bust just like your boy bradford

I just you're completely full of crap when you say watch a bunch of players every single game.

Nobody is close to being polished by the time they get to the NFL (except Luck). Weeden has a beautiful arm and is smart and accurate.
