Even if he starts the year on the PUP list, Im not really concerned about Morgan. Im not sure he was going to beat Moss out for the # 3 reciever anyway. Hopefully he will get healthy and push Moss and Hank for playing time. No need to rush him.

I realize we may have over paid for Morgan, but I love the direction Shanny/Allen have taken us. I think they have maid some pretty savy moves with the draft and off season. We have solid compitition at every position, and we are pretty young. You guys gotta give a lil love.....right?
Yep, at least when we are signing these 2nd chance guys we aren't overpaying them like the last regime did. I definitely think our passing game will be more explosive this year.

I think that is a training camp rule, but I agree he won't be on the pup list. Even at 75% he's still our 3rd or 4th best wr

Moss is practicing like a man possessed

It's not that he lost weight this offseason, he got in better shape. Shanahan says he looks more explosive, more powerful and has looked great during practices. As of right now Moss projects as a starter opposite Garçon because Morgan and Hankerson are recovering from last years injuries.

http://www.csnwashington.com/06/14/12/Moss-performing-like-a-receiver-possesse/mobile_landing.html?blockID=724578&feedID=10316

Quote:
"We got Santana to come in, lose some weight and he did," Kyle Shanahan said. "You know a lot of guys can lose weight by starving themselves, staying in the steam and dehydrating themselves and just getting on a scale. Santana did it the right way. I feel he’s more powerful. He’s more explosive. He’s about 10 or 15 pounds lighter and he’s been great out there."

His projected 2012 salary cap number is around $2.65 million. For a team missing some of its precious cap space following a league sanction, that's a figure large enough to consider eliminating - especially if it's not for a frontline starter.

"You saw it physically, and then to see him in the meeting rooms, he’s been great," Kyle Shanahan said. "He’s been so attentive and it’s shown over to the field. The guy’s not thinking out there, he’s confident in his speed. He feels confident in his knowledge of the offense and there’s no hesitation. He’s been very exciting."
shanahan said he looks the best now since he's been here. Sounds like this may be a big year for Tana... Cool

http://blogs.fredericksburg.com/redskinsjournal/2012/06/15/brandon-banks-preparing-for-chance-to-be-full-time-receiver/

Banks was told he has to be able to play wr this year by shanahan and shanahan is pleased with what he sees from Banks so far. Banks has gained 10 lbs and as I have eluded to before he seems to be making a lot of catches, it's reported every day of practice that he has several. Of course, the same can be said for Aldrick Robinson, it's been reported he's had some spectacular grabs.

Quote:
“I called him in early and I told him he’s going to have to help us at the wide receiver position as well if he’s going to make this football team,” Shanahan said. “He accepted the challenge and came [to camp] in excellent shape.”

Shanahan said Banks has gained approximately 10 pounds since last season, when he had 155 pounds on his 5-foot-7 frame. He saw time at each receiver spot during minicamp, but will have to battle 11 others in training camp if he’s to have a shot.

So I'm guessing he must be 160 to 165 now...

Still don't see it for Brandon Banks; all told that roster spot is needed on this team.

Aldrick Robinson has speed, he's one of the fastest players on the team by all reports, and he's a wide receiver. With the top four receivers set and the prospect of keeping another receiver in addition to Robinson (Yes, I think he makes it), along with a potential surplus at RB, TE and OL there may be more value in Robinson, and I expect that will be the case...but I said this last year.

We've seen very few plays from Banks due to injury and he has to be lights out this pre-season and show that he can take a couple of hits.

Does anyone think with the reports about Lorenzo practicing at TE they are going to use him as a blocking TE...like in goaline and 3rd down situations?

Don't recall if I mentioned it, but I bumped into Lorenzo a few weeks back and asked this question:

Me: During your tenure with the Redskins, you've played defensive tackle, defensive end, offensive guard, outside linebacker, inside linebacker, and now are practice with the tight ends. Given that Chris Cooley is our emergency place kicker in case Gano gets hurt, have you looked into becoming our backup punter?
[at this point, Alexander starts laughing]
I mean, he's an old guy ...

Zo: No, I'd be afraid I'd drop the snap.

If he lines up to receive the punt sometime in the future, remember this as the genesis of the idea.

Question footy, have we seen anything noteworthy from Austin or Robinson ever?

I understand wanting it to happen, I do also. I'd love for both to outplay even Moss and Morgan to make the team, but there is noting there to believe that either will even outperform Armstrong or Banks other than potential. Neither one has done anything in a regular season game, Robinson looked lost in preseason last year.

All the while Banks continues to be one of the most productive returners #1 in kick return yards in the nfl and #11 in punt return ydg, and an efficient left handed qb! Wink

Well good that he is trying to bulk up to play some at WR. Still think he needs another ten lbs but Good Luck to him. Hope he AND Robinson find a way to stick... .

Reason I quoted u was that makes at least 5 players (u might think of more) who have adjusted their weight significantly to either play a new position (Paul, Alexander) or just be able to play to stay on the roster (Moss,Banks,Cooley)
Coaches are getting the most speed or strength etc. out of the talented players we have Wink

Last year was last year. Some of these guys, particularly thinking of the so called "late-rounders", can be really slow picking up their playbooks and NFL routine. I suspect that Robinson is one of those guys.

When you look at RGIII's strength's, we're going to need some serious speed to complement his arm strength. Yes, there is Pierre Garcon and I suppose Santana might be fast again. Otherwise, it's probably Robinson and AAA - maybe both, or maybe only one make the team.

I think they keep the speed receivers, and they may not want to gamble on Banks being healthy. If Robinson shows some moves returning the football, Banks is done, imo.

Yeah, that's a great thing. I also think they could keep 6 wrs (heck Kyle kept 8 last year) and both Robinson or Austin and Banks make it. I can't wait till the preseason when we can see these guys compete.

Moss COULD be number 1.
Quote:
An ESPN scout reports that he came away from Washington Redskins minicamp believing they have the slimmed-down WR Santana Moss projected as the starting wide receiver opposite WR Pierre Garcon, and that while they might use him in the slot, he retains a chance to be the Redskins' No. 1 wide receiver in 2012. Which leads to the question of 2011 third-round pick WR Leonard Hankerson, who looked as though he was being groomed as the future No. 1 wide receiver in Washington before last year's hip injury and this spring's signings of Garcon and WR Josh Morgan.

It wouldnt surprise me and I've pretty much said as much all offseason because Garçon, Morgan nor Hank have proven to be a #1 and Moss has improved his work ethic and conditioning this offseason to where he looks like our best WR again, according to reports.

I know he'll be starting, so whether he ends our best wr or not doesn't matter. I do think if he's not our best, he's 2nd best after Garçon.

Moss is still my favorite redskin and I have a lot of faith in his abilities to return to his old form.
