I still don't buy Jenkins as a safety, even in obvious passing situations. He seems so unnatural in off coverage. Jenkins held his own against Calvin freaking Johnson in man-to-man; the team was torched when they played zone (or when Newman was on him). Jenkins to me just seems uncomfortable and unaware when he drops to a zone and reads, the primary function of a coverage safety. I think we mostly agree he doesn't belong in the box, so I dunno what he would do as a safety.

Broaddus said that they had Scandrick replace Elam on some third downs last year. I don't remember this ever happening, but obviously they didn't have the corner depth to do it on a regular basis. Now that they have that depth, I figure Scan at FS is what we'll see.

That would work....move Jenkins to the nickel role than. Whatever we need to do to get our best players on the field.

I posted something like this a lil bit ago... To me it is a no brainer to try and get your best players on the field as much as possible. We have 4 corners, all of whom are better than all of our safeties.

I think we should play CB/WR matchups more; We have a big physical beast of a CB in Carr, if we are playing say the Pats... Put Jenkins and Claiborne on the outsides, scandrick on slot if offense has one or at free safety if no slot wr, then put Carr at "SS" to stick Gronkowski if he releases...

To me, just like the newman vs. megatron and Newman v. Marshall, bad CB/WR combos are a big deal now.... on the flip side i felt newman always excelled covering smaller quick corners...

When we play the giants, Carr should 9 times out of 10 cover Nicks, and claiborne should cover Cruz...

You get it... I think our secondary players should be able to play multiple positions, particularly when playing heavy man schemes. (I know its a danger to get too complicated for our secondary...)

I think Claiborne would be better at the "centerfielder" due to his size, range, and ball skills.

Since everyonbe else has already brought up the defensive things I would like to see, I want to switch sides and go with offensive packages...

...Smith...Arkin...Livings...Kowalski...Nagy...Free...Phillips
Witten...............................Romo
.......................................Vickers
.......................................Murray

I would want this as our standard short yardage and goal line formation. With an extra OG and Witten on the left side, giving us an unbalanced line, everyone would be expecting a run to the left. I would give them exactly what they expected and see if they could stop it. Then, in a big divisional game, with Smith reporting as eligible, but never going out for a pass all season, I would finally call his number. Witten motions to the right side, we fake the toss play to Murray and Smith pulls off the old fake fall down play. We used to run that with Dan Campbell at TE. He would throw a half hearted cut block at the backside DE, then hop up and roll out into the flat. Smith is athletic enough to pull it off.

I would also like to see this...

Witten...Smith...Livings...Kowalski...Nagy...Free...Phillips
......................................Romo
.....................................Vickers
...............................Murray....Jones

Yep, it's the wishbone. With both of our RB's having the size and speed to block or take one to the house, the sweep play could be fun to watch.

The one formation I would truly like to see a lot more often is this one...

Bryant...........Smith...Livings...Kowalski...Nagy...Free...Witten
...............................................Romo..........................................Austin
..............................................Vickers
..............................................Murray

But HT, that's just the standard I Formation. Why do you want to see that? Because I am tired of the NFL being a pass happy league. I want to see some smash mouth, power running game, tough guy football.

And it is probably never used, but he almost gets there quite often.

passing situation - 4-2-5 formation

-----------------Hamilton - Ware - Wilber - Butler--------------------
Carr - Scandrick ---------------------------------- Claiborne - Jenkins
---------------------- Lee - Carter ----------------------

---------------------- Johnson/Pool ------------------

the safety spot depends on how ready Johnson is..

We'd get a flag for twelve men on the field....

LCB - Carr
LSafety - Johnson
RSafety - Sensabaugh
RCB - Claiborne[/size]

Just a few ideas....

why?

Why what?

why that D line? I see us getting killed on outside runs and quick passes to a RB.

I don't see the purpose of having Spears and Brent as DE's in that formation.

The idea is to get to the QB as soon as possible. Who would you favor in a matchup? Ware or a center? Spears and Brent are there to draw double teams away from Ware and Ratliff to try and get to the QB in a split second.

You have Lee and Carter, two players who are known for their sideline-to-sideline ability in the middle to prevent those quick passes and outside runs from burning the team in case the inside rushers don't get to the QB right away. Johnson could also play closer to the line of scrimmage, sort of like a 3rd linebacker, to provide aid as well.

why would Brent and Spears draw doubleteams? it would take double the time for them to get to the QB then it will for Ratliff and Ware.. I am pretty sure that most tackles would be able to hold their own against them pretty easy. unless it's a weak OT who they can bull rush..

Why do people keep putting Ware at DT? Do you really want him getting double teamed on every passing down? At DE he might get chipped by a TE, but then is one-on-one vs an OT. Why neutralize our best pass rusher?

So we can be as ineffective as possible.
