Not much is explained. I couldn't figure out how to equip a melee weapon, to the point where I truly believed it wasn't possible. Apparently it is though and you can equip the hatchet by doing something related to taking it off your belt. I'll have to try it out next time I play.
Also, I killed a sheep and "gutted" it, but the five steaks the game told me were now on its carcass were not possible to obtain, for some reason. Maybe I was missing a required item (I had a knife, but that's about it).
I found some medical tents surrounded by barbed wire but couldn't for the life of me find an entrance.
Still, my third (most recent) life lasted for 2h40m (technically I didn't die, but when I quit I only had about 4000 blood and the screen was black and white and blurring like crazy, so it's barely playable in that state) and was really awesome. Got a Lee Enfield rifle, then an AKM. Killed 20 zombies and 1 human player in that time and almost starved to death (because I got lost in a massive area without a single building/zombie/anything nearby). _________________

Just bought it. This game has caught my interest for awhile, especially after seeing all the vids online.
I can't wait to see how far they take this game. The future looks bright considering the increase of popularity in DayZ. |

With the hatchet, you have to open your bag (g), then right click on the hatchet and then click "remove from toolbelt". Then it will go through a little animation of your guy taking it out. Then you have to reload the hatchet (r, its actually funny, because it looks like you're putting bullets into it ). After that you can swing away. If you hit anything in the face, it dies instantly, otherwise zombies can take 2-3 hacks.
With the steaks, you might not have had room in your bag. Even if you did, you need matches and wood to be able to cook it and then eat it.
If you see barbed wire on the ground, or sandbags, or a tent, that means someone put it there. Barbed wire and sandbags are barriers, so players put them down so that others players and zombies can't pass. Chances are there was a player who aborted while in those medical tents. Players often camp those for easy pk's.
Also, when you start the game up again, you'll be in that same spot (regardless of what server you go into), and you'll still be bleeding and have all of your stuff.
As for Day Z's future, its currently just an alpha, so eventually they'll be fixing a lot of the bugs and release it as a standalone game. _________________

Ah, thanks. I knew I'd respawn in the same place with the same items and still near death, but I didn't know the rest. I haven't come across any pick-up-able barbed wire in my travels, but it sounds like I should keep an eye out.
I just looked it up and apparently all you need to remove wire is a toolbox... which I had. Looks like I should have tried to remove it rather than looking for a way through/around it.
I've also found some jerry cans, windscreens, wheels, and engine parts. Seems like I should try to repair me a vehicle. _________________

You don't always spawn on the south coast, You will often spawn on the east coast south of Solnichniy and rarely in the middle of the map at Novy Sobor. If your new id recommend running the Six Updater through Steam so you can use the overlay for the map in game so you have a little more protection incase someone or something finds you and you still have sound.
Wont take long to learn the map, I have pretty much the entire world memorized.
Havent played much the last week or so. Guild Wars 2 beta had alot to do with it. I run US 557 server but been getting a little frustrated with it since the DayZ staff forced the server hosts to revoke a bunch of Admin privileges and still no real defense against hackers since everything they do now is a bypass through battleye and doesnt even register in server logs. I have banned 10+ ammo.sqf scripters in the last couple days and a couple teleport/invis people. _________________

Greatest moment of my DayZ career: I was checking out some hotels (I think?) in Chernogorsk and coming down the stairwell when I ran into a guy with a rifle out who took a few shots at me. I immediately freaked out and ran back up the stairs. Waited a couple of minutes by the doorway, hoping to take him out with my axe (my only weapon). Eventually I decided to charge.
Ran down the stairs, saw him crouched down and started swinging. I killed him before he could fire a shot. He had a DMR sniper rifle (+ ammo), a couple of frag grenades, an M9 pistol (+ ammo), a watch, a compass, a map, a blood bag, morphine, one of the good backpacks, and all kinds of stuff.
Sniping zombies from the rooftop was also awesome. Eventually another human came up to the roof and we ended up killing each other at the same time. It was so intense.
About 20 mins later, some people hacked the server and everyone in it spawned in the middle of a forest, surrounded by a couple of guys with rifles who shot everyone. I managed to crowbar someone to death before dying in the chaos. When I respawned, I spawned as a goat. _________________

Its definitely alot of fun. After 2+ months starting to get bored of it as the game updates have grinded to a halt as of late. There is a new game ive seen on a couple websites that seems to be a replica of DayZ.. called WarZ. _________________

WarZ was actually in production before the mod came out, so its hard to say who copied who, but it looks to be a really similar game. _________________

What's your budget?
BTW, your specs don't look like you'll be able to run the game well I think, even with a video card upgrade. _________________ Equal Opportunity Hater

I wont? Well I was thinking about just buying a gaming computer in a month or two because I want to play games like this and starcraft smoothly. For a good gaming rig, how much do you think it'll cost? Some of my friends told me its cheaper to build my own, but i really have zero idea what im doing. _________________

Your friends are 100% right, but if you have no idea what you're doing, maybe you can have one of them do it?
I'd estimate you can spend about $600 on a really solid rig (giving you some room for future games) not including monitor and all the other stuff. If you wait til Black Friday, you can get some amazing deals on parts from Newegg and spend even less.
The problem in your case is scouting these parts, which it sounds like you may not be able to do. Best case scenario is if you have some nice friends, maybe pay them like 50 bucks or something to do all this for you?
Maybe try to look at some guides or YouTube vids, there are tons of instructionals out there that show how it's done. Maybe you'll be able to do it yourself. Assembling everything is fairly easy, the wiring would probably be the toughest part if you've never done it before.
BTW, the specs you posted, is that a laptop? _________________ Equal Opportunity Hater
