I kind of like scenario B to be honest. At least for the first year of it. Then there are possibly more than 32 rookies taken as well.

It seems you had most of that covered in your write up.

There aren't 32 first round contracts in the NBA though. This is an easy fix with scenario B. The first 30 guys will be matched to their 2011 NBA Draft classes contracts, and everyone after that will get the 2 year deals (0.5 / 0.8)

I keep thinking that the NBA has 32 teams << Laughing

But yeah that sounds good.

So, this is going to be done over more than one year?

Also, I like the idea on the rookies.

On free agency next year, I'm assuming there is no max contract limit, and if you're an unrestricted free agent any team can sign you. For the restricted guys, you'll have 24 hours to match the contract or something like that?

I also think while 70 million is a good soft cap limit, perhaps 100 million is too high for a hard cap. I don't think any team should be allowed to go over 80 million no matter their circumstance. That leaves a good amount of wiggle room, but teams can't go crazy re-signing their own guys and offering MLE's every single year.

We should also discuss whether or not player option years count on their total contracts. If you draft LeBron, do you get the entire 4 years remaining on the deal, or just the first two years before he has a player option.

So you are suggesting it be like baseball, where you can offer as much money as you want?

That does seem like the only fair way to run free agency, because even if someone offers 70 million a year for LeBron for example, they will have to fill the rest of their team with minimum players, and rookies.

In a league like this I don't think there's any other way to do it.

The max for Dwight Howard when he hits free agency in 2013 will be 21 million, and TONS of teams will be willing to pay at least that amount. Only fair way to go is to give him to the team that bids the most for him IMO. If you pay him 40 million, congrats to you, now good luck putting the rest of your team together.

That was my point as well, so I like the idea.

Yeah I was actually thinking that 100 million was a bit too high, I didn't really do too in-depth with anything. With 70 being the limit, that is already plenty to spend on your team. So 80-85 million would probably be a good hard cap.

For player options, we are going to just say that the player accepts them. Makes it easier to track that way and gives people a good understanding on how many years you are getting the player for.

By the way, I have all the player salaries ready to be posted.

So when we have the draft, you can have really easy access to them.

Also, if you guys know any other people who would want to join this, try to get them to join so we can fill up the other 6 spots.

On your player salary lists do you have team options and qualifying offer years for the restricted guys?

If you send me that list I could update it before you send it out.

Yeah I added the qualifying offers, but I'll send it to you when I get back to my home computer because that is where I have it saved. It might need to be double checked as well, so I appreciate that.

You can just post it in here and I'll explain anything I think should be changed.

Still lookin' for 6 teams. I see there's a lot of interest in the NBA forum, but I don't want to clutter that forum.
