http://deadspin.com/5918141/david-stern-asked-jim-rome-have-you-stopped-beating-your-wife-yet-as-todays-interview-turned-ugly

Jim Rome: "Is the lottery fixed?"

David Stern: "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

Not the first time Stern has resorted to that pithy line of questioning.

David Stern's Donaghy news conference transcript

Quote:
Question: I know it's hard to prove a negative, but how certain can you be that this is an isolated incident and it isn't more pervasive?

Stern: I think I was just asked when I stopped beating my wife; so I don't think that how certain can I be? On the basis of my current understanding, it's an isolated incident. And I can this proves that I can never be certain of anything, but we have been we understand that this is an isolated instance.

Rome and Stern always get into uncomfortable exchanges.

Rome obviously asked him to stir crap. If the lottery was fixes would Stern actually admit it? What purpose does that question serve?

Rome wins, this was posted here and we talked about it. That's why the dude makes millions.

Until I see the ping-pong balls fly, it's fixed.

Shame on David Stern for resorting to that. He should know he has a lot more to lose in that exchange.

Rome wins this one in a landslide.

I hate Stern with a passion. He is the worst person in all of sports. Well, him and Bob Arum. Someone...take him out.

Clearly you're not a hockey fan.

Gary Bettman makes David Stern look like Jesus.

Look at him... he just looks like a little weasel.

What a tool, if the draft isn't set up then why not let the the actually draft slots be televised? Probably better television than watching some stiffs sit on stage looking like idiots waiting to see what pick they get. To think this guy runs the NBA and he asks a question whether a guy beats his wife or not... stay classy Confused

I heard the exchange live, and let's just say that I'd be surprised if Stern was ever let on his show again.

And of course, with how defensive Stern got when he was asked the question, this doesn't exactly allay our suspicions.

Why? This is great for Rome. He'd probably love to do a 3 hour sitdown.

Whats the story on Jim Rome beating his wife? Was that a rumor/speculation on peoples part and Stern threw that at Jim as Jim threw the "Is NBA lottery fixed?". Or did Jim actually beat his wife? That statement went over my head.

And for people saying the lottery is fixed. Sure they'll televise it and we'll still have people complaining its fixed. There are team representatives in attendances and an outside firm which I doubt would jeopardize their credibility by being involved in something as silly as fixing the NBA lottery. There was one year where an actual sports reporter was allowed in. Not sure if they still allow it. Yet nothing fishy ever came out of it. Yet you guys believe in this conspiracy its fixed. I dont get it.

The draft is even broken down in detail how its handled and what actually happens. But you need to see it with your eyes which is funny. Stern made a great point and one I've said all along. Any team that wins the lottery there are people who will cry foul about it.
