Dorenbos or David Akers at #1? They pretty much carried us for a decade. Be tough to edge out. Cant say that about many Eagles.

#20: DT Jerome Brown (1987-1991)

In 1991, the Eagles were the poster boys of intimidation. The fire that burned at the center of the defense was All Pro tackle, Jerome Brown. While he had the huge body of a defensive tackle, he had the light feet of a defensive back. Brown was a chaotic, disruptive force up front. He had the ability to blow up plays from the get-go, whether it'd be by tackling the running back in the backfield, or sacking the quarterback. Not only did Brown excel in stopping the run and pass rushing, but he also picked off three passes during his shortened, five year career. He could simply do it all.

Not only was Brown great in the NFL, but he also left his mark in college at "The U". He was a standout on a Miami Hurricane team that was one of the most successful, and most dominant programs in all of college football. He ended his college career as a unanimous All American in 1986. The Eagles went on to draft him ninth overall in the 1987 NFL Draft.

Had it not been for the tragic car accident that took the lives of Jerome Brown and his nephew after the 1991 season, Brown would have continued his dominance and could've truly left a legacy that would go unnoticed to your typical NFL fan. After his death, players and fans started the unofficial motto "Bring It Home For Jerome", referring to the Super Bowl. Brown was going to be special. Due to his shortened career, it was kind of hard to rank him any higher on this list; but he finds himself leading it off with the 20th spot.

Accomplishments:
-2x All Pro
-2x Pro Bowl
-Philadelphia Eagles Honor Roll
-Philadelphia Eagles 75th Anniversary Team
-#99 Retired by Philadelphia Eagles

Moment: Reggie White Announces Death of Teammate & Friend, Jerome Brown

Phenomenal start to this illustrious list. Jerome Brown deserves the credit he receives from the Eagles and their fans for the short lived career he excelled in on the field, and the character he displayed off of it.

I thought he had maturity issues.

For a moment I thought this list would include coaches, wanted to see where was Jim Johnson ranked Sad

He did seemingly live a more child-like lifestyle in a grown man's body than most, including but not limited to high speed vehicle and motor cycle driving, and going out to party on nights prior to practices and games. But he was also a family and friends first kind of guy, who ran a football camp for the youth in his hometown (somewhere in Florida iIrc), and helped spearhead an anti-KKK rally in that same hometown while he was in high school or college. As Reggie White mentioned while they were team mates, "Jerome is very misunderstood."

Praise and love to the forever 12th man.. Hall of fame and All Time Great type skill set. I saw a special on Reggie White and they had footage of Brown and White standing next together at Browns youth football camp(one the first of its kid that went on to inspire White in his work with kids), Brown had a built like it was no mans business , his chest was a 3 feet thick his shoulders were like 6 feet wide, his arms and legs were tree trunks, but he had the wrist , ankles and waste of some one much thinner, he really did have those light skill player type hands and feet, fast mean punch and quick agile feet on a tank of body.

Think 20 is too low for Jerome. I realize he didn't play that long and was also on one of the greatest D-Lines ever with him Reggie and Clyde but he was as dominant as any DT we've seen in the past 25-30years. If he was able to go one and play throught out his whole career theres no doubt he would have been in the Hall-of-Fame. I like the list idea but I think jerome should be close to the top10.

Unfortunately thats exactly why he should be this low. As dominate as he was it was still for only a short period of time. Without knowing the players ahead I can still see the justifacation having a good idea about a good 15 of them?

I think 20 is justified for Brown due to the shortened career. Had he played a full career, it's reasonable to think he may have been in the top 15, maybe 10.

I'll reserve commenting on the list until the whole list has been revealed.

Sincerely yours

Jerome is the in our hearts , always but i think for the sake of this list and discussion i think his spot on the list is fair. In the end he is legend with a small body of work to go off. Technically say a guy like a Trent Cole has a more concrete case to possibly crack the top 15 then Brown. We still understand Browns special and impactetl legacy.

If Bill Bergey once recorded 233 tackles in a season, it was a 14-game season. (I can't verify this stat and sort of doubt it as they did not keep records of tackles in those days.)
Nonetheless, he was a 5-time Pro Bowler and a 2-time First-Team All-Pro.
Bergey played on some really bad teams. The Eagles had 20 wins in his first four seasons.
He played with a pretty poor supporting cast, too.
He is already better than Jerome Brown and probably five more guys on the list.

So, are we in for 17 guys from Buddy Ryan on with a couple of old timers for good measure?

Probably. But it's his list and everything is debatable. Considering career, Bergey should be higher than Brown. But Brown's impact in just a few seasons was pretty remarkable. But let the list play out first. Bergey could land in there.
