Lee discusses Carter's progress

It looks as though Carter is starting to develop into the player the team thought he could be when they drafted him in the 2nd round of the 2011 Draft. Do we see Carter make the same jump that we saw from Lee in Year 2?

If he is, we will have a very strong defense next season if our D-line plays adequate football.

Carter is the guy that I was most excited about in the developmental player favorite thread. I was a huge supporter of Lee when he cam out because of how often he was around the ball in pre-season. I saw the same thing in Carter on special teams last year. It seemed like he just had a nose for the football and the unmatched speed to get there. He studied a lot of Ryans scheme from the sideline, and now he is taking full advantage of OTAs. I'm glad to hear that he is popping out in practices. He is fast, big, and strong. If he continues to learn the game, then he will be unstoppable.

Ware
Lee
Carter
Spencer

Say what you want about Spencer not getting enough sacks, but he is solid. I really like our secondary and LB corps. If lissemore can break out, and Ratliff can keep it up, then our defense is top 10.

I hope Carter can make a similar jump at Lee. He's athletically gifted and he would give the Boys another much-needed playmaker in the middle. If he can stay healthy and live up to his potential, the Boys could have an excellent ILB duo for years to come.

Everything is on paper this year. But the upside is that the defense did improve drastically on paper, so its up to them to preform rather then being under or poor staffed.

I am very anxious to see the progression of Carter. There is nothing wrong with getting younger and more athletic at ILB. Given Carter's athleticism it will be interesting to see how Ryan intends on using him.

It's amazing how many changes occurred this offseason. A COMPLETE overhaul of the secondary and we have 2 or 3 players on defense that can break out this year. I think fans forget how well Scandrick played the beginning of the season and while he's not as good as Jenkins (I want Jenkins in the slot), he is very servicable for a 5th round pick.

If Lissemore and Carter break out this year along with Claiborne imposing his presence on #2 WR's, this defense will look amazing. With all that being said though, I wont get my hopes too high on the team since they haven't proven anything yet.

I really hope so. I've been very vocal about my support for guys who were recruited by and played for Butch Davis in college.

I'm still very concerend with the d-line and the lack of a pass rushing threat opposite Ware. We don't stop the run very well (see Nose Tackle, Lack Of A) and we can't consistently get pressure on a QB (see Spencer, Almost Anthony). Unless we fix those issues, our secondary is going to get torched play after play because a DB can only cover a receiver for so long before the guy gets free.

Im excited about Bruce Carter but im not getting my hopes up this year...i think playing Carter and Connor on a rotating basis will help his progression and i believe he can break out and hold down the starting spot next year and the Boys will have an ILB duo to compare to the 49'ers Willis and Bowman...rotating Pro Bowl bids every year.

What will help is a DL that gets pressure and im counting on Lissamore and Hatcher to break out this year and be the difference for this defense.

Go Boys...

Peace

We need a break out from: Lissenmore, Brent, Carter and Church. And by breakout, I mean make meaningful contributions on a consistent basis.

I think a healthy Ratliff helps the pass rush, though not much from the run stand point. Hatcher just needs to not digress, Spears should be more "valuable" in a deeper rotation and we pray Crawford brings the money on pass rushing.

I'd like to see Victor Butler get some reps on passing downs in place of Spencer, I know we over hype Butler but when he is fresh coming in on 1-2 drives late in the game he has proven he can get to the QB. That will let Spencer "do what he is good at" while getting some kind of pressure. I'm not sold on Wilber, his skill set is "Spencer but he tries all the time instead of some of the time" which doesn't overly impress me. I admit, he has got to do a lot to win me over, no sugar coating it. Only pick I really disliked in the draft.

The huge X-Factor is number 2 CB. Is Mo Cal ready? Is Jenkins on the pup?
