Visnovsky to the Isles for a 2013 2nd rounder.

Got to admit that is a very nice move for the Isles. Visnovsky is a great puck mover in the back end. He and Streit on the PP could be deadly.
Between those guys, Calvin de Haan, and Travis Hamonic, the NY Islanders are going to have no problems moving the puck up high on the power play. That's an impressive top four from a PP perspective.

It's nice that we finally got a top 4 defenseman, even for one year.

But it's not enough. Visnovsky and Streit are still good puckmovers but they are decline, especially defensively. Hamonic is good, MacDonald is okay, then we got Reinhart and Mayfield/Pedan are nice projects. De Haan has been a disappointment and Donovan needs to brush up his defensive positioning.

The depth on D is better but currently we still have no one to clear the crease. I want Douglas Murray from the Sharks. The fans turned on him big time after one injury-riddled year and he can be had for cheap.

The real reason Islanders got Visnovsky:

Salary is 3M

Cap Hit is 5.6M

Bruins have traded RFA rights to Benoit Pouliot to Lightning for RW Michel Ouellet and a '12 5th round pick.

I can't see Ouellet having a full-time role on the team, but he adds depth nonetheless and we add a draft pick. Nice trade for both sides once Tampa hammers out a deal with Pouliot. Wish him all the best.

Maple Leafs deal negotiating rights to UFA G Jonas Gustavsson to Winnipeg Jets for conditional 7th round pick.

Burke had said Reimer and Scrivens are the top 2 in Toronto anyway, meaning the Monster was never in Toronto's plans. Good deal for both sides if Winnipeg can get a contract done.

Ribs is very creative in the offensive zone and is a natural playmaker. He's dangerous behind the net, but is also an underrated goal scorer. He will give you good effort on D as he will throw his body around and block some shots as well. He's not that great in the faceoff circle, but he has the rare ability to slow down the pace of the game to his own liking. He only has one more year left on his contract, so he probably won't be sticking in Washington for too long.

I don't know much about Eakin, can you tell me some about him?

As for the value, I kind of like it. Eakin was Washington's top rated center prospect last year and he already has NHL experience, so I'll take that. It sheds some valuable cap room off of our team so we can go after a big time free agent (like Suter), and we pick up a 2nd round pick, a round where it is still possible to draft a future all-star. In fact, we've done it 2 times in the past already with Neal and Eriksson. I like the trade.

I think that with the Ribeiro trade yday, it makes the Stars a frontrunner for Suter's services. We have the cap space, and now since we have a new owner in Gaglardi, we will have the cash and willingness to go after him. We need a PP QB too. It would make a lot of sense for us.
