http://espn.go.com/blog/afcnorth/post/_/id/49464/projecting-2013-cap-room-for-afc-north
So we're $10m over the cap for the 2013 season and we have to franchise WR Mike Wallace ($10m) and give WR Antonio Brown the RFA tag ($3m). That's $23m we need to come up with next off season.
I'm hoping the following guys don't make the roster this season:
K Suisham saves $1.2m
LS Greg Warren saves $525k.
OG Trai Essex $200k
So that's another $2m in cap room. We'd still need to clear another $21m.
OLB James Harrison will make $9m so he's a possible cut candidate but I don't see anyone able to do what he does so I'd keep him.
To get under the cap and have enough for WR's Wallace and Brown I would cut:
NT Casey Hampton $5m, NT Ta'amu and DE McLendon will take over
DE Brett Keisel $4.5m, DE Heyward will start at RDE
ILB Larry Foote $3.6m, either LB Brandon Johnson starts or Spence
LG Willie Colon $2.8m, Foster starts at LG
LT Jon Scott $2.7m, get a backup LT in the draft
S Will Allen $1.6m, draft a safety
OLB Jason Worilds $900k, draft a pass rush OLB who can drop into coverage
Total saved 21.1m
Of course they can just continue to give players money up front in a "signing bonus" and spread it out over the rest of their contracts like they did this off season but that puts you in more cap trouble in the years ahead and you never get out of it.

Only two I have any type of issue with is Worlids and Colon.
DONT GET ME WRONG...Dont really care for either, but Worlids deserves another year with a full offseason to show what he has (even though I dont think he will do much), and I think we have to wait to see how Colon fairs at LG before we can think about cutting him (although I dont expect much there either.
For the most part, I agree with those cuts. Keisel is still pretty good, but Im hoping Heyward really shows he is ready to step in as starter
I think James Harrison could be on his way out if he doesnt stay healthy and have a good season. _________________

I think Worilds is just another Limas Sweed so he was definately going to be on my list. Right now a 3-4 OLB is very high on my draft list for next off season because of Harrison's age and high cap number.
As for Colon, I think he'll be a very good guard for us it's just that we have to get under the cap and come up with enough to cover WR's Williams and Brown.
Keisel's made my list because of his high cap number and because we have a first round pick in Heyward just waiting to start.
If the Steelers cut Harrison then they can keep Colon and Keisel for another year. |

| I'm kind of surprised were arent over more. We were like 25 mill over this year so 10 mill next year shouldn't be much of a problem. The thing that sucks is having to likely franchise Mike Wallace. We will just have to restructure everyone and thier brother just like this year. Colbert and that Omar guy should be able to pull another hudini and get us some cap space with both restructuing, and cutting a few guys. Man, if you think Wallace is pissed now wait till next year when we will have to franchise his a$$. Lol |

I don't want to make this a thread about Worilds but I think he is going to surprise a lot of people this season. I think he gets it this season and shows he could be the heir to Harrison. _________________

Who cares if we discuss it now? Its a reasonable discussion to have. The site is called Footballs FUTURE. This is no different than discussing next years draft. Yes, things will chasnge, but you can still speculate on positions and players who might be good fits AT THIS POINT.
And no, it wont be much different, at least not in terms of major cuts. Maybe some low end cuts, but nothing much will be different. The only other "big" name Id throw up there is Ryan Clark, but I doubt it unless he just really sucks this season. _________________

I don't think mentioning Worilds and Colon are issues then because anything can go in this thread. Maybe he thinks they'll both have horrible years or Colon will get injured yet again. Honestly, with a thread like this I could mention anyone on our team getting cut without any basis behind it, since the evidence of my analysis has not been played out yet. |

When is he going to get the chance? Would you pull James Harrison out of a game just so Worilds can get in there show how he can miss tackle after tackle? |

Ryan Clark's cap number is $4.2m so he could be one of the cuts. I just don't see them having faith in Ryan Mundy to take over. And if they draft a safety I think they'll give him a year to learn before starting. |

Someone is going to get cut. I'm not saying that Colon will have a bad year, I actually think he'll be much better at Guard than RT.
Worilds won't even play unless Harrison or Woodley get hurt so to me, there's a slim chance we get to really see something from him even if he is better.
We have to free up $23m one way or another. |

There actually is merit behind mentioning guys like Clark, Colon and Worlids over any other rando player. In terms of Clark and Colon, its cap space vs how they have played in the past. Meaning, they are due to make a big chunk of money, and havent always played that well. Worlids simply hasnt shown much, and while he could turn it around, at this point, its definitely possible he could get cut if he doesnt turn it around.
Age, cap room, level of play, role on team and depth at the positions all play a factor, so saying that you can just name anyone is 100% false. You can very much weed out the biggest possiblities for cuts next year with us being that far over the cap.
And its called speculation....just like looking at the draft. Not sure what is so hard to grasp about that. Again...refer to the sites name. Talking about the future of the sport and our team is a big part of what this site is about. _________________

Will the TV deal kick in next season? I'm not up to date on the varying cap level as it relates to TV revenues. _________________
