Pro football weekly is doing a poll of the best defense in the nfl. The championship has come down to the Steelers and the Seahawks. Steelers need some votes. |
the fact that Seattle made it that far leads me to believe that the starbucks geeks are stuffing the ballot box _________________

The Seahwaks arent the best defense, but neither are the Steelers.
Not sure why you guys are balking at this. Its not like they are talking about a terrible defense. The Seahawks have a very good D. Id put the Steelers over them still, but not by much. They were better than us the second half of the season, and thats with a crappy offense backing them up. And going into this year, we are missing two players that have been staples for years, and our defense doesnt have very good momentum coming from last season _________________

Browner, Sherman, Chancellor, and Thomas make up the best young secondary in the league going into 2012 IMO.
Wagner and Wright could both be special.
Jason Jones was a hugely unheralded signing and along with Mebane, Clemons, Bryant, and Irvin gives them legit pressure from the front 4 on any down and distance.
They have legit talent at all three levels.
I have zero problem with the Seahawks being mentioned as potentially the better unit. _________________

You didnt seem to have an issue with the Steelers being in contention for the best.
And I never claimed it did mean that, but you are making seem like its an absurd notion when its not. If the Steelers are in the running, then there is no real reason why they Seahawks shouldnt be as well...especially going forward. _________________

steelers are always in contention when it's left to a fan vote. the seahawks, not so much. This is a team that gave up over 300 points in one of the worst divisions in the NFL, and they added Jason Jones, a perpetually underwhelming interior pass rusher, and Bruce Irvin, while losing their defensive signal-caller and best LB.
Color me skeptical that the Seahawks are anywhere near the top. Steelers have been top 3 in either points or yards allowed 8 times in the last 11 years. The Seahawks were 24th or worse in BOTH yards and points allowed 3 of the last 4 years, and last season, they managed to get 7th and 9th in one of the worst divisions in the NFL. Looks more like a hiccup to me _________________

For one, before you go blasting the Seahawks compeition, maybe you should take a look at ours. They played the same caliber of offensive teams as we did, so thats a pretty moot point.
Secondly, as I said, they outplayed the Steelers the 2nd half of the season. The first half they had issues but were also dealing an offense that couldnt stay on the field. Is it a "hiccup" or "changing of the tide"? Time will tell, but they are a young defense with players who will only get better, and 3 of our 4 best defensive players are on the wrong side of 30 and will likely be going downhill soon.
I dont presume to say the Seahawks will be better going forward or vice versa....what I am say is that its not as far fetched as youre trying to make it seem. _________________

before we go too far with saying that the seahawks offense was horrid and the defense good, let us also remember that the steelers, I believe had the 23rd best scoring offense to go with the number 1 overall defense..
I could be wrong, that could ahve been yards...and if so, apo,logies...that also could be red zone scoring, can't remember exactly...
but what i am saying here is--seahawks may have had a horrible offense, but steeelrs wasn't exactl;y scoring 30 points a game either..
and still had the #1 defense...so, perhaps we should revisit the off def ranking for both teams as far as scoring offense for both, points allowed for both, and also a comparison on time on the field for both defenses before we continue this debate, if we want to truly discuss this from a different viewpoint other than---what we think without really knowing...
no without knowing that--I still stand by the steelers defense..people talk about that broncos game, but they forget the pats coming in and getting totally ruined by bump and run coverage in that game...
if you discuss the failures, be sure to include some successes as well for balance...and the broncos game?--take back the safties, and play the run good--and that wouldn't have ever happened...
tebow overthrew the WR,a nd let him make aplay on overthrown balls...half the time on crossing routes, he hit thomas in the damn feet man..except for one pass, in OT....now, he made a great throw there, and the throw being on target--allowed thomas to catch at full speed--that, is what won that game..one throw...on a below 50% compl QB...
there was more of a chance of it hitting the ground at his feet than hitting his hands, about a 57% chance..but this throw--that didn't happen..
anyway--if i don't see those numbers from someone tomorrow--I'll post them myself...we should have concrete numbers in this debate, and make points of those.. _________________
