Today is the 40th B-day of Atari, which helped launch perhaps our greatest addiction.

I get the nostalgia of it and all. I just can't play those games anymore with those weak graphics. Playing an old system makes you appreciate the new stuff even more.

Completely the opposite for some games. Playing stuff like Killer Instinct and Chrono Trigger makes you realize how ahead of it's time those games were and how today's games still can't match. Graphics are only a portion of quality gaming. I do agree that some games were fun back in the day, like Tutrles in Time, but today aren't really playable because they're too simple.

Gaming today is by far in its worst state, at least for me and my friends who grew up on SNES and Genesis. I own a tiny fraction of the games I owned back then, even during the PSX/N64 and the Dreamcast/PS2/XBOX era. That was the last era great era.

I personally cant play older games again either. There are certainly some, but by myself, no thanks. Also doesnt help that I dont have any sense of nostalgia before PS1/N64 days lol.

So many people miss this point. To me it has always been about gameplay, a great story, or an interesting mechanic that separates a game from others. Graphics are usually the last thing I care about.

Don't get me wrong, I get that what you're saying. I'm just saying that in the Atari days those games can stay buried in the past. Except for Pac Man, that will always be my first love.

You speak like someone who never played "Adventure", "Combat" and "Yar's Revenge" as a child. Laughing

Adventure deserves an HD remake!!! Laughing

Is combat the one with the tanks? Yeah that was ok. I grew up starting out with a 2600. I still play video games to this day, almost close to 30 years of gaming for me.

There's a 2600 sitting in my garage. Be jealous of my Pitfall, and Tank.

The 2600 was my first system. I remember spending countless hours on Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Freeway (lol, the cheap version of Frogger), and Ice Hockey.

Yes, the game was actually just called "Ice Hockey".

For Nintendo, there was only one ice hockey as far as I'm concerned: Blades of Steel.

The first ice hockey game where you could engage in fisticuffs? I'd turn that ish ( Wink ) into Mike Tyson's Punchout more than hockey.
