|
|
|
While reading up on my facebook today, I came across a post from BTB, and it something along the lines that there have been rumblings about Dez Bryant not going to get resigned when his contract expires in 2014. I was like there is no way in hell he doesn't get a new contract. So I did a little digging and I finally found the source of that little tidbit.
Deep in this link, it talks about why the Cowboys are suiters for the WR Josh Gordon
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1255449-cowboys-browns-redskins-most-likely-landing-spots-for-josh-gordon
| Quote: | | One of the reasons Nawrocki listed the Cowboys as a likely destination is that he heard the Cowboys have already decided not to offer Dez Bryant a second contract when his rookie contract expires in 2014. Rotoworld draft expert Josh Norris tweeted today that he thinks Gordon will end up with the Cowboys. |
So, I dug alittle further and found Nolan Nawrocki's original piece.
http://www.profootballweekly.com/2012/07/11/wr-gordon-fields-mid-round-interest
| Quote: | The general consensus around the league, however, is that the Cowboys, Browns or Redskins are most likely to take a chance on Gordon early.
The way we hear it, the Cowboys do not intend to offer Dez Bryant a second contract and interviewed the Texas-grown Gordon closely |
Now, only 24 more hours will tell if this guy know's what he is talking about, or he is just blowing smoke out of his you know were!

I think it depends on how Dez does this year. It's put up or shut up time for him. _________________ R.I.P. Nikolas and Brian you will truly be missed.

Pretty Much.
Honestly we are in such a passing league, I can see us having 3 explosive WR's for a long time. _________________

Dez might want big money too and young WR are playing much better recently. Rookie contracts are so valuable now. I could see a trade and landing more picks in the future. (haha I feel like the A's fan in me is taking over) _________________ R.I.P. Nikolas and Brian you will truly be missed.

He's gotten better each and every year, and in his third year he finally gets a full off-season and from everything I have read and heard he has taken full advantage of it.
His route running has gotten better, his chemistry with Romo has improved, his stamina has also increased. I don't buy that the team has already decided to throw in the towel on Bryant (a player with perceived "legal" issues which when compared to other goings-on around the league are minor at best) for a player who actually broke the law by smoking an illegal substance. _________________

I just dont see how we could pass up on a guy who many think, if he puts it all together, could be a top 5-10 in this league. Giving up on him for draft picks or letting him walk as a FA is rediculous. Esp since WR's tend to have a fairly high bust rate. _________________

Please tell me what organization decides 2 years into a five year contract that they won't re-sign one of the up and coming WRs to a second contract? Let's pretend that Dez wins the league MVP the next 3 years in a row. The Cowboys won't re-sign him? After all the decision has already been made, right?
That's just stupid. _________________ Quote from May 7, 2013...

great post! good research..
but I don't see us offering much for him. Dez is a Cowboy, and he will continue being that. there is no way that any coaches/GM's decides that they wont extend a contract years before it expires.. also, Dez got his heart in this.. he will be a leader on this team for a looong time, and I think that he will be a better player year after year. we know how high Jerry thought of him when he got drafted, he even got the #88 jersey.. no way that Jerry is looking for a replacement.
this is just more non true Cowboys rummors.. _________________ The lonely supporter of Phil Costa.. |

Actually, If you dont trade Dez for two middle 1sts, you would be the crazy one. What can 3 1st rounders get us? A trade up to draft a Future QB. Package ours and one of the middles, and you are in the top 5. Thats Matt Barkley.
While he might be dangerous, he hasn't been consistent enough to make Jerry walk away from the table if that trade was offered. I'd be angry if that deal didn't happen and it was offered. _________________

This is pretty much how I feel about this rumor. If Dez earns that contract, JJ will pay. _________________

I think you have to always consider talent. With the cheapness of rookie contracts now, especially a second round pick, cap wise you have to consider him. They might be looking at Gordon to play outside and move Austin in the slot in 3WR sets, plus if Austin's injuries continue or Bryant fails to master the finer aspects of the WR position, you could trade one of them. All I want for Jerry and Stephen to do is not feel than can submit a higher pick than Gordon's evaluation, since it's the supplemental, and they believe they can recoup the pick with a Jenkins trade.
As far as supposedly making up their mind on not giving Dez a second contract, I don't buy that for a minute. Jerry gave Sensabaugh and Scandrick much higher contracts than their performaces or the market warranted, so I don't think giving bank to Dez scares him. Maybe Stephen is scared, but not Jerry. |
