If we get the first overall pick then yes. Any more than that Minny can go kick rocks.

So if the Grizzlies were just going to trade Rudy Gay anyways, why didn't we just go after him to begin with? I know he has a big cap number but still a lineup of:

PG-Kyrie Irving
SG-Dion Waiters
SF-Rudy Gay
PF-Tristan Thompson
C-Tyler Zeller

Looks pretty good to me.

Congratulations to Kyrie Irving, apparently he just got engaged.

Imagine an off season like this..

Sign

Greg Oden

Draft

Cody Zeller
Victor Oladipo
Deshaun Thomas
Isaiah Canaan

Depth Chart

Irving/Livingston/Canaan
Waiters/Oladipo
Gee/Miles/Thomas
Thompson/Varejao/Speights
C. Zeller/Oden/T. Zeller

With one more off season, we should start to see if Waiters is the guy at the 2. Olapido gives us a solid defender to have behind Waiters as well. Adding Zeller and Oden is huge for the front court. Thompson could be ready to take his big step after showing improvements this year and another off season. Varejao can go back to the bench role to help him stay healthy and productive. Cody Zeller will allow Tristan or Andy to spend more time on offense closer to the basket as he has an extended game. Oden will allow that as well with a decent extended game. Tyler Zeller provides us with a great 5th big man who will be good insurance if Oden or Andy get hurt. Speights is a guy we keep around just to the uncertainty of Oden and Varejao. Gee and Miles can hold down the 3 spot, especially with the additions of Zeller and Oden. Livingston has done a solid job as the backup PG so we not bring him back. Thomas and Canaan are big time college scorers who as 2nd round picks have a chance being bench scorers in the NBA. Finally, in 2014 we would look at addressing the SF position. With all of our future draft picks we have a shot at Wiggins or Parker.

I don't like Deshaun Thomas for that Cavs team.
He can score, but he will be a chucker while being a defensive liability.

It would be Jamison all over again...But less skilled with basket making.

Love him for the Buckeyes...Hate him for the Cavs.
He needs to go to a Vet heavy team, and learn a true team style of BBall.

I posted this in the trade thread-

That is a good lineup that perhaps may get you a top 4 seed in the East but you certainly aren't winning a title with it and as others have said they are better off tanking and building around Kyrie, Waiters. Really should have traded Varajeo when his value was sky high.

Side note about the Cavs, they do not play Defense. Like at all.... Absolutely atrocious and with the bright talent that teams has going forward they need to get Byron Scott the hell out of there and hire someone Tom Thibadeou-esque to right that ship.

Salaries don't match so you'd have to throw in some fillers and the Timberwolves would probvably want Varejo as well.

Cavs get hosed in that trade IMO. Love is a great scorer and a truly elite rebounder but Waiters is still young and showing some great flashes of being a legit SG and your 1st round pick is guna be great again this year theoretically.

If you could somehow get love and not lose Anderson though that would possibly be one of the greatest teams on the glass of all time Shocked

We just have 2 2nd round picks to spend. I would put him in the D-League to start

A lot of the Cavs fans thought they were going to but it was just Cleveland's luck that he gets hurt than gets a blood clott in his leg that ends his season. I think a lot of the Cavs fans on here were assuming that Andy would not be with the Cavs by the end of the year.

it would of been nice to have Gay but I dont believe he is worth his contract. I dont think the Cavs wanted to take on a big contract of a player they werent really sure about. Griz sign him to a max contract and thought he could be the face of their team and two years they trade him. That shows me some concerns. IMO the Cavs want to make a strong push for James for 2015 so they dont want to ruin that with a player they dont believe it. I agree with that because I believe the Cavs have a strong chance of bring James back to Cleveland. Even with how weird that sounds it could happen

Who are the teams looking to GRIZZ it up and shed some salary to avoid the luxary tax?
We have 4M, and The contracts for Walton, Boobie & Casspi all set to expire with a total of just over 13M
CJ Miles is on a 2 year 2.25M contract as well.

Somebody else has to be up for a similar maneuver.

Young player & draft picks...SEND THEM OVER.
Hamilton &/or QMiller from Denver wouldn't be a bad target..They are around 6M over the cap.

We didn't have a Tayshaun Prince to give them back. I think Memphis is going to be pretty good after that trade still. I was pretty relieved when we didn't get Gay. I don't like his fit with the rest of the team, he's just not a good enough 3 point shooter.

That's what I'm thinking. With Walton, Gibson and Casspi all expiring we should be able to maneuver at the deadline and get some assets, even using our many picks if need be.

It's not like we are gonna keep that many rookies on our roster anyway. Might as well trade some of those picks for higher draft picks and quality pieces long-term.
