There is alot of QBs with good college tape(Just about every QB who made it into the NFL has good college tape).

I think the Bears would like to look long term. I have seen nothing from Blanchard to lead me to believe that he fits that mold.Yes that means Im judging him snap by snap. As it should be.

Not on such limited snaps it shouldn’t.

Those are the snaps he is being judged on by Mike Tice and the media right now. Thats unfortunate for him but thats the truth.

I don’t believe that…judging someone on such limited information makes no sense whatsoever…

Like I said we will see how it plays out in preseason where he & every other rookie will get the opportunity to put their skills on tape.

Like I said before maybe the reason he is getting limited snaps is because he was already judged? Or maybe there is no reason to judge him because he will be gone soon.

Ill be pleasantly surprised if he does well in the preseason. I agree with you that we do need a developmental guy. I just dont think its him.

That is straight from the JA school of talent evaluation lol.
There is almost no way that Blanchard will be kept over McCown, there is no reason to do that. And Tice has no time to be looking at college tape either.

I have no expectation to think that Blanchard is anything more than a camp arm with an outside shot at making the PS.

Coach Lovie Smith credits second-round WR Alshon Jeffery with an "outstanding" training camp.

Jeffery has been a more advanced route runner than expected, and he's used his 6'3" frame and 36.5" vertical to reach over cornerbacks. "The best way to say it is, he's a Brandon Marshall in the making," said CB Charles Tillman. "He can definitely be on that level." We expect Jeffery's biggest rookie-season contribution to come in the red zone.

I guess the real question is their a benefit to keeping the younger guy?

We have to weigh the fact that McCown is going to do a better job of running the scout team versus Blanchard developing into something.

My guess is that Blanchard is never going to develop into a traceable commodity and therefor as was stated above is not worth keeping. I would also not waste a PR spot on a QB. We have had some success recently with developing some end of the roster talent and we should save it for an OT and CB to develop.

Campbell is on a one year deal. There's no guarentee he will be back next year so if you're looking to the future it makes a heck of alot more sense to keep McCown as a possible #2 QB for next year than it does to keep Blanchard.

I used to doubt that Campbell would be back next season because I thought he would just try for a starting gig next offseason. But if that were the case, then why didn't he do that this year with so many teams in need of a QB? What's he going to prove by backing up Cutler?

As much as I think we need to develop a young guy this is a good call…if we keep McCown as our 3rd QB this year he could be our 2nd QB next year even tho he is coming towards the end of his career...

I would be fine with keeping McCown as long as Blanchard is on the PS...we need to look ahead so we are proactive and not reactive.

I think this year for Campbell is all about proving he is totally healthy after missing 10 games last year…there is no doubt in my mind he is better than a few of the starting QBs in the NFL.

Mike I don't know how you do it?

I am in Europe right now on my honeymoon and staying up to date with this stuff and posting is difficult.

You are an impressive poster.

Fox Sports reports #Bears Brian Urlacher not at game tonight, excused for personal reasons but expected back soon.

Again it’s only preseason but not being on the sidelines for a game makes you wonder how serious the personal issue is…hopefully everything is alright with him and his family and he is just getting a veteran’s preseason break.

At least Spencer is admitting it wasn’t a good enough effort last night and they need to step up as a unit.

#Bears back on practice field in Bourbonnais this afternoon and Brian Urlacher watch continues. For those concerned, team’s actions – or lack of action – speaks loudest. Bears have said Urlacher just needs rest for his knee. If club was more seriously concerned, safe bet is it would have signed depth at linebacker off the street, someone who can play middle or man strong side if Nick Roach is in the middle. So, if you don’t believe what team is saying, watch what team is doing – or isn’t doing.
