Posted: Sun Jul 22, 2012 2:12 pm Post subject: Does the Detroit Lions Maturity Problem Start With Our Coach |
|
|
|
Jim Schwartz has done a commendable job in most areas since he as signed on as head coach. Setting the example in terms of maturity is not one of them. He criticized the packers and Mike McCarthy for going skeet shooting on the last day of mini-camps. Mike McCarthy has a Superbowl ring and Jim Schwartz has none. Mike McCarthy has had a bunch of winning seasons while Jim Schwartz has one. I read an article a couple of weeks ago that said more and more people describe Jim Schwartz as behaving like a jerk on the sidelines. After watching Jim Schwartz's blow-up after the 49rs game and how he acts on the sideline in other games I am starting to think that the maturity/composure problems that the Lions have displayed start with Schwartz. For this team to take a step forward Schwartz needs to be more in control and not act like a spoiled kid. Its quite possible that the reason he can't get his players under control is because doesn't control himself. If he and Martin Mayhew don't start taking this stuff more seriously, the wheels are going to fall off and we will be rebuilding quicker than you can say top-10 pick. How does everyone else see things?
PS--Aaron Berry should be gone ASAP!! |

None of these arrests have happened anywhere around Schwartz. He cannot be held responsible for the actions of these clowns.
It does appear that is it time for him to start holding these guys accountable, it'll be interesting to see what happens with Berry these upcoming days. _________________

ONE WORD>
NO!!!
If he was in Alabama giving Fairley alcohol and pushing his foot down on the gas I would say yes.
Pretty sure he went to the dealer to get the drugs for LeShoure too.
He is held to a standard NO other coach is right now on FF. I put a ton of blame on the scouting and Mayhew for drafting character issues. Schwartz has a say in who is drafted but he doesnt spend hours and hours scouting these guys.
This is a league wide issue and its becoming more apparent with each arrest.
Schwartz can only do so much. Now if he comes outs in the media and DEFENDS their actions I would question him. So far his statements have been pure PR statements.
Berry and Culbreath need cut......Mayhew cough cough get it done.
LeShoure and Fairley will get another shot based on talent and draft status. As I said in another post their talent outweighs the issues so far. The more issues the more the scale will tip the other way.
As I said in another post Ten isnt cutting Britt because his talent outweighs issues. Its the business side of the NFL.
Schwartz is 10-25% responsible for these issues IMO> _________________

Seconded.
Nothing like an open invite to cheeseheads to come over and bash the Lions. Anyone want to go post the link in their anything thread? _________________

The problems start with the players and end with the players. Their actions are on them, they are the idiots running around with guns, drinking and driving and getting caught buying weed, that has nothing to do with Schwartz.
Accountability is what Schwartz and Mayhew control and they need to do a better job of it. They need to hold these players accountable by their actions. Berry and Culbreath should be cut, personally I think both should have been cut already. LeShoure and Fairley need to be told that they are now going to be held to a zero tolerance policy because of their actions and if they screw up again trade them or cut them. |

DHLF and I made mistake posting in TIRT.
Guess majority of us were sick when Schwartz was extended.
Oh well.
Funny that Schwartz is held to this standard when all the other coaches arent.
| Quote: | Rams 2011 first round pick DE Robert Quinn arrested
Chiefs CB Donald Washington arrested.
Kenny Britt arrested for DUI
Broncos' Dumervil arrested for alleged firearm assault
Seattle Seahawks Marshawn Lynch arrested for DUI
Dallas Cowboys Wideout Dez Bryant Arrested
Adrian Peterson arrested for resisting arrest |
All horrible horrible coaches I guess _________________

The answer is a big no, and that's it. No, it has nothing to do with Schwartz.
Maybe it has something to do with these guys being stupid, immature, careless, reckless, short sighted, arrogant, full of themselves, blind.... did I mention stupid?
Part of being a grown up is taking responsibility for your own actions... not letting blame be placed on your football coach, and any attempt to do so is shortsighted.
It's time for these guys to put on their big boy pants and grow up.
... I also think the Title of the thread should be changed. It's just begging for people to come in here and bash the Lions. _________________

I don't blame Schwartz and Mayhew for guys getting arrested. I do think they probably could've sent a stronger message to curtail some of this. _________________

My Lord.
If I get banned....it was real folks.
I can't believe someone actually did it. How ignorant. It was inevitable they would find it anyhow but ugh. _________________

This I concur with 100%.
However we are not behind the doors. We do not know what the message is. To assume they are not is a major mistake.
Maybe these players are just THAT DUMB or do not care.
Scouting needs to do a better job of weeding out the character issue guys. _________________

Agree with all of this.
Just stupid to post it in the Packers thread trying to cause trouble. _________________ AAL: DeAndre Levy 31 Tackles
