—We’re going to have our camp preview on the defensive line and linebackers coming later today. I will say right now, though, that I’m not sure that a battle for the starting right defensive end job, something I’ve been previewing here much of the offseason, will take place. I think that Adam Carriker will start and Jarvis Jenkins will come off of the bench. That isn’t necessarily because Carriker is better than Jenkins. I just think that they believe they will be able to take advantage of Jenkins’ versatility better if he’s not starting.
rich Tandler thinks that Jenkins will come off the bench because he feels that we will want to take advantage of his versatility. It's not necessarily because Carriker and Bowen are better players than Jenkins, it's because we can bring Jenkins in at different positions depending on the situations.

I understand it but it doesn't fully make sense to me. We can easily start Jenkins at DE then move him to the tackle position on third down. Even if we have a rotation Jenkins (if he is the best player) should start. Its like not putting your best players out on the field for a situation that might happen. If we can get a 3 and out possibly why not.

I hear ya. To me, I wouldn't think we'd want to have Jenkins out there playing starter snaps. I think we need to work him back into it. if it's true he's 100%, in shape and looks better than any of our 3 starters, he should be starting. If its for health/shape reasons I get it, if it's for situational stuff, well that doesn't make sense. The best players should always start.

Exactly. You can still limit his snaps even if he starts. If he helps us get 3 and outs that is limiting his snaps right there. If we have a ten play drive against us you can not let him play all ten snaps but you see how the game goes.

English translation: Haslett is in love with Carriker so he's not going to start anyone else.

I don't think it will matter given how often the defensive line gets rotated

Carriker is coming into his own and could prove this, year.why he was selected in the first round.
