"As a father and husband, I cannot imagine the pain and suffering the victims are going through," Smith, a five-time Pro Bowl pick, said in a statement. "My family's hearts and prayers are extended to theirs, and I hope this contribution might assist in paying some of the medical bills that will help allow these families to move forward in this tragic circumstance."

I love this guy, thought this deserves a news thread.

Classy move by Smith.

As many others have mentioned, my heart goes out to the families and friends of those who were affected by that tragedy.

As far as i know Steve Smith has no ties whatsoever to the state of Colorado, so this makes what he did all the more special... VERY classy move and i gained a ton of respect for Steve. Guy talks a lot of trash, but he obviously has a great heart.

Always liked Steve Smith. I think people over look him from his swag on the field but he is very generous and a good guy to be around. Wish more athletes were this generous.

Because it is not NFL News... NFL News is for News that affect the player/team or the game.

Very classy move... but having personally met and seen Steve Smith outside of the football area of life, I can say that he's not a friendly professional athlete.

Good that he's done this.

He would've been nicer to you had he seen the "Fight Club" thread you started recently.

In all seriousness though, good to hear things like this. All of the survivors have very long roads ahead of them as do the families of the deceased. That money will go a long way toward helping pay medical bills.

I met him last year. He was pretty friendly to me.

On and off days I suppose.

Classy move by Smith though.

Three out of the five hospitals currently treating victims of the Colorado theater shooting have decided to limit or completely waive the medical bills of the uninsured, and waive the co-pays for those with medical insurance.

There are several efforts, including a donation from Warner Bros., to help the victims financially, but the sheer volume of injured persons still means a lot of bills and a lot of big bucks.

Some more good news for the families of the victims.
