Fantastic film. In a year with some strong film fare, yet nothing that really "blew me away", this was hands down, my favorite movie so far, of 2012.
Chris Pine is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors in Hollywood and Elizabeth Berkley (already one of my top 3 actresses), gives the performance of her career. You also get stong supporting roles from Olivia Wilde, Michelle Pfeiffer and a child actor named Michael Hall D'Addario.
The story is pretty simple and straight forward, but very well done and the ending is just fantastic. This one is for sure, going in my top 50 of all time. I may even watch it again, before I send it back to Netflix. |
Joking right? |
No way! I loved that film. You didn't like it? What exactly didn't you like? |
predictible- overused storyline, medicore to bad acting, oversappiness. Wasn't terrible but It's not even in my top 40 in the year right now. |
That end twist, was not predictable. The storyline may not be that original, but it was very well done with a terriffic script that told a realistic story. Bad acting? Are you out of your mind? Elizabeth Berkley was amazing and Chris Pine was very good.
I wonder if you and I saw the same film? I know two other people that saw the movie and they loved it. I also checked the message board for the film on IMDb and the comments were very positive.
I guess we'll see what other people on here think about the film, once more people get to see it. It just came available on Netflix, so more people will get to view it. |
Or no one seen it in theaters, because it looked bad, and the reviews were all negative. Making there no reason to see it.
That's not a twist, that's just stupid storytelling..BTW.
but that's something I'd expect from the guy who wrote Transformers.
Also, realistic? If someone had a sister, they wouldn't stalk them and pretend to be their friend, just to scope em out. So stupid. |
No one saw it in theatres, but the reviews weren't "all bad". It has a 67% RT rating, so that is far from bad. No one saw The Five Year Engagement in theatres either and it was a very good film. Sometimes, the trailers undersell the film.
Aren't you the one who liked The Grey? That tells me what kind of taste you have. That film was laughably horrible.
Spoiler:
| Quote: | | She already said she grew up hating her dad's other family and resented them. If he told her right away who he was, she would have rejected him immediately. At first, he was trying to scope out what kind of person she was, because he was considering, keeping the money, but he began to bond with her. Fom there, he was trying to have a chance to win her trust and get to know her as a person, so once he did reveal his identity, he might have a chance to be in her and her son's lives. He would have never gotten this chance, if he told her who he was right away. |
|
Oh god, are you really trying to tell me that I have terrible tastes? I really enjoyed the Grey, but it's in the 20's on my list for the year right now. I think it's got a great final 4 or 5 minutes, and was an enjoyable survival movie. BTW if you really care about RT scores, the Grey is 79% fresh.
You say it has a 67%, huh?? Just proves your a moron, it has a 57% from critics 66 from Audiences, but audience means nothing because all the Transformer and Twilight movies are positive from the audiences.
I'm not one anyone to go knocking others tastes, but damn, you've got to have the worst tastes in movies i've ever seen. If there is any bit of thought needed during a movie, you'll dislike it. Unless it's torture porn. |
I always go by the public's opinion over "The critics". I disagree with "the critics" way too much. This morning, People Like Us had a 67% public rating. I'm always gonna use that, over what a bunch of so called "critics" think. Apparently the public rating dropped 1% by this evening, but it was 67%.
The Grey was one of the 3 worst films I've seen in 2012. It took no thought at all. It was the same old, typical survival film with special FX so bad, the wolves at times looked as though they were leftovers puppets from the Jim Henson studios. |
I figured you'll go with the public opinion, since the public opinion usually likes terrible movies.
That's fine you have the Grey in your bottom three, again, I don't even have it in my top 20. I just think its funny you attempt to trash talk it, when your clueless. _________________

I don't mind the refreshing take on an action film w/ no twists and just straight forward seeing the main character dominate, even if it's predictable. I'll probably wait till it comes out on dvd though, not worth the $20 it takes for the movies (one cannot go to a movie and not indulge in their snacks). |
I'm glad the reviews suck. Movie should have never been made. Cash grab if there ever was one. The first was awesome, loved it. That's that, never thought this movie would get a sequel. And the way they continue the movie from the first to the second is laughable. The family of someone he killed in the first one wants revenge lol. _________________ Adopt-a-Ram: Brian Quick - 11 receptions, 156 yards, 2 TDs |

Your definitely right that there shouldn't have been a sequel, I'm sure I'd get equal entertainment re-watching the first than I would watching the 2nd. _________________

To me, public opinion counts more, because it gives us a broader range of an audience. To most people, not everything has to be "high brow" to be likable.
I certainly wouldn't say something like, "public opinion usually likes terrible films". That is basically insulting the intelligence of the vast majority of humanity and saying you have better taste than they do. Personally, my taste is my own. What I like, others (like you) may hate. It makes no difference to me. We all like/dislike different things.
How am I trash talking? I was simply pointing out that you wrote a favorable review of a film that I considered terrible. I was just pointing out how we differ on most everything. |

Watched Sucker Punch Still unsure what to think. The scenery was pretty good, but the plot is...um...yeah...strange. _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

More than halfway through The Tall Man.
It's a thriller starring Jessica Biel. So far, it's been an entertaining watch for what it is. It's essentially a classic B-movie, and the plot gets progressively ridiculous. The first 15 minutes signal a more affective film, but it eventually becomes a bread-and-butter plot twister. Fun watch, though. _________________

Hmm, according to The Osprey it's a top 5 movie of the year.

I'm new to this section of the site (who knew this place had an underworld teeming with discussion about many things I love discussing outside of football?), nice to see a thread about films. But the film is most definitely not top 5 for the year. It's just a kick-your-feet-up watch-for-fun movie with an ounce more substance than is average. Enjoyable watch but we're not talking Casablanca here. _________________
