If Cena was in the attitude era he would be a jobber or low card wrestlers. Only reason why he is popular is because little kids and women like him. That's why Vince never will turn him heel. At least Jericho is liked as a heel and a face. |
No, he's popular because he was sick nasty on the mic during his rapper phase and then got even more popular when the kids and women started to like him.
Cena debuted in 2002
first won WWE champ gold in 2005.
There were plenty of big time wrestlers in the WWE during that period.
PLENTY. |
Cena gets hated on because he's gotten stale, not because he isn't good. His character needs re-worked. His mic skills are still really good even though he's gotten to the point where he basically says the same things over and over. Cena is also better in ring than he gets credit for. He's booked as this superman guy where he can win any match at any time with the 5 moves of doom. He was much better against Punk because Punk challenges him to be different in the ring. Give Cena some better quality opponents and his in-ring skills do show. He's not the kind of guy who brings up the level of his competition and can have a great match with anyone, but when well paired he brings it just fine.
If the Doctor of Thugnomics came back Cena would become loved by the "real wrestling fans" again. | _________________

I haven't minded Cena since the feud with Punk. His character is starting to put guys over instead of squashing everyone. That's what always bugged me. _________________

RVM, that match wasn't terrible, but I think that's because the atmosphere was so electric. There were quite a few botches, and the fact that Cena went out after 1 finisher while Punk took 2 or 3 plus multiple submission attempts just kinda rubs me the wrong way. The ending was kinda meh, but overall it was certainly enjoyable. _________________

i dont remember that many botches. also, it was a dirty finisher (outside influence) which in pro wrestling means it should hurt more/not discount the finishee as much.
additionally, they were trying to put over CM Punk as the Best in the World. If you watched that match live, you were super juiced at every Punk pin attempt.
The only time i remember being as excited is when Santino was in the Elimination Chamber for the WHC. _________________

There were a few botches: The AA where punk was supposed to land on his feet, the back-body where punk was supposed to land on his feet, Punk's cross-body where he hit Cena's knees, Punk's high-knee in the ropes where he nails Cena in the jaw (might not be a botch but he NAILED him) and Punk's first GTS where he hit Cena in the ribs...and those are the few I can remember off the top of my head, there might be more
As far as the "dirty finisher" point, I guess that makes sense and also, Punk actually hit 2 GTS's, so that's my bad
I didn't watch it live, but like I said, the crowd's excitement was outrageous (obviously because it's Punk's hometown). _________________

you cant hold the AA to the feet botch against Punk. thats a terrihard spot.
GTS to the ribs doesnt bother me that much. Cole played it off nice, and/or it could have been planned.
dont remember the back body
the cross body was bad.
cena punk MITB was one of the most memorable matches i've ever remembered watching live. _________________

Don't get me wrong, I'm not holding any of those against either fighter, just pointing them out. If I'm holding th botches against anyone/thing, it's the match iself
It was def memorable, I'm not saying it wasn't. I think it's memorable for me for a diferent reason than it's memorable for you, though. _________________

Wait, are people calling Punk/Cena MITB bad?
There's a reason why it received a 5 star rating... _________________

Well, I know the next match I need to youtube. | Which one?
Santino at EC was the most excited I've been watching a wrestling match. I couldn't stay seated. _________________
