There are plenty of options to fill in for the season. With Brown seemingly done and other injuries already appearing we need depth as well as starters.
| Quote: | Chad Clifton: The Redskins went after Clifton a couple of years ago, but the veteran decided to stick with Green Bay. The 36 year old spent all twelve of his NFL seasons in Green Bay and started six games for the Pack. Despite his age Clifton is only one year removed from a Pro Bowl season in 2010.
Tony Pashos: Pashos will be 32 next month and is an eight year veteran in the NFL. He started his career with the Ravens where he became a starter in his second year. Pashos value increased and he signed a free agent deal with the Jaguars where he had his best year in 2007. After two seasons in Jacksonville Pashos spent a year with the 49ers and has spent the past two with the Browns where he started twelve games last year.
Marcus McNeill: Surprising to some McNeil is only twenty-eight years old. He was drafted in the second round of the 2006 draft where he quickly became a two-time pro bowler for the Chargers. The six year veteran missed most of last year with a neck injury, but the 6'8 335 lbs tackle may be better then anything the Redskins have.
Vernon Carey: The 31 year old has been a staple for the Dolphins after being their first round pick in 2004. The eight year starter has spent most of his career at the right tackle position, but the Dolphins tried to kick him inside last year. He could bring depth and versatility to the line, beyond a starting right tackle, if someone else emerges or Jammal Brown returns to form.
Stacy Andrews: Redskins fans should be familiar with this former Eagle and Giant. Andrews is now 31 and started three games for the Giants last year, after starting twelve for the Seahawks in 2010. Like Carey, Andrews brings some versatility as he's played both guard and tackle at the NFL level.
Kareem McKenzie: McKenzie is another name that should sound familiar as he's spent the last seven years as the Giants starting right tackle. The 33 year old has spent eleven years in the league total, as his first four were with the Jets. The veteran has not missed a start for the Giants since 2009. |

I'd want McNeill out of that group, "if" he's healthy.
In 2010 we tried to sign Clifton and Pashos in FA but we lost out on both. Maybe BruceAllen will go after them again, but I'd rather go for McNeill. McNeill is the youngest and most athletic, if healthy. _________________

Rich Tandler says DON'T look for the redskins to sign a FA RT:
http://www.realredskins.com/rich-tandlers-real-redsk/2012/07/need-to-know-dont-look-for-wallace-free-agent-rt.html
| Quote: | McNeill missed the last seven games of the 2011 season with a neck injury. McKenzie is relatively healthy but he’s 33 and not a good zone fit. Clifton is 36 and missed 10 games with injuries last year. Pashos, 32, missed four games last year with injuries and had foot surgery in March. Andrews’ season ended early last year due to blood clots in his lungs.
So the top options are older than Brown and, with the exception of McKenzie, not necessarily any healthier than Brown. And they might be looking for more than minimum contracts, an issue for a team that is scraping up close to its reduced salary cap number. It's the proverbial waiver wire from hell. |

Good point and he does seem serviceable. I look forward to seeing Tom Compton play also, it seems we will get a really long extended look at him and Black during the preseason. _________________

Whats the deal with Carney? He was a former first round pick and not really that old. He plays G and T which is nice. Is he not 100% healthy? Not a ZBS fit? _________________

Carey* ,I think he'd be fine for depth. We have to bring in someone else to compete besides black. _________________

I understand, but we could bring him in and cut him before the final cutdowns if he stinks it up. _________________

I agree with this. That may have been just what he needed for motivation to get back on track. _________________

| Whoever is healthy. I think it's completely baffeling that it's taken this long to address this issue. Complete and utter failure by Shanahan and Allen |

...and every other coach we've had over the last 20 years. To be fair though,Shanny used a top 5 pick on a tackle and has drafted 5 other lineman as well as adding Smith(UDFA”),Brown,Lee,Black,Chester ...so he addresses it every year. But no coach in the history of football can predict injury. _________________
