7 years, $56 million is sounding like the type of deal the Lions will need to offer Avril to keep him around.

That's a bit high for a guy that's been as inconsistent, as he is talented.

Stylish must have sold his account to Cliff Avril's mom sometime mid to late January.

Not about to go there anymore, we'll see how this plays out.

Anyway, let's just say reality set in for me after he was franchised.

Retaining Tulloch helped me to accept that reality as well.

No doubt. Things change values fluctuate and things have changed since the thread was created.

I didn't post it for anyone to get slagged or anything like that.

It demonstrates that flexibility is required in the every changing landscape of salaries.

Looking at Avril specifically then looking how salaries play out a fan could make a case for any salary between about 8 and 12 mil a year.

Unfortunately it boils down to what Avril is willing to sign for and how much Mayhew is willing to pay and guarantee.

I understand your thought process but trading him would be totally dependent on return don't you think?

I don't think he's the type of player you trade unless you get a significant piece coming the other way.

i agree. even a blind 1st rdp would be ok with me tho. player for player is a bigger deal to me. draft piks can be manipulated. p vs p would come down to a need position imo, which would make a trade harder to find and price is also a factor. demarus ware could get hurt tomorrow, you dont think im calln them askin if they have interest in avril. but i would want an already proven player but like i said think thats harder to do. if you could get draft piks, you could move them plus alittle more and get u a top 10 prospect, while saving money. seem like a no brainer to me. but guess its easier said then done. hes done it once tho (roy) dont see why he cant again.

This is pretty much exactly how I thought the situation would play out. Well, I didn't envision a holdout, but it was a brief one in any case, and he won't miss even a preseason game.

Hopefully we can get something worked out next offseason, but it's going to be another situation where we've got some important starters and key role players we need to retain or replace--Levy, Houston, Delmas, Cherilus, Durant, and SLH.

Word from camp I heard was Levy and Cherilus may already be on the roster bubble. May not need to worry about re-signing them.

Yup. All these people worried about re-signing players that may not even be in our future andwant to sacrifice our 4th best player for them.

Want and sacrifice aren't really accurate though.

Personally I wouldn't trade Avril unless there was a significant player involved. Not interested in draft picks either.

Of the guys listed above the only player I'm extremely high on at this point would be SLH.

THAT I am on board with 100%

If we are getting a less selfish, proven young playmaker in return I am down. But I don't think draft picks or high mileage RBs get rightful return for a young playmaker of Avril's pedigree.
