Devon Thomas WR for the Chicago Bears (A major contributor for the NY Giants Superbowl run last season on ST's) has announced retirement.

Quote:
"I have decided to retire from the NFL," Thomas tweeted. "God has blessed me with achieving a childhood dream. I want to give back to my hometown and coach/mentor kids so they can reach their own. One love."

I actually thought he was going to be the best WR of that class when he was drafted. What an interesting WR class that turned out to be compared to expectations:

Devin Thomas
Malcolm Kelly
Limas Sweed
Dexter Jackson (Not really surprising though)
Donnie Avery
James Hardy
Andre Caldwell

DeSean Jackson & Jordy Nelson are the best of them for sure. I expect Eddie Royal to put up better numbers this season too. Early Doucet isn't bad for where he was picked either. Hawkins was a decent find as was Josh Morgan. Stevie Johnson, Davonne Bess and Pierre Garcon all turned out to be great late options.

I always liked Devin Thomas. He obviously busted as a WR and wasn't what Redskins were hoping for but he really carved out a spot as an elite ST guy who can contribute in a lot of different ways.

I wonder why he's decided to retire at 25 though... It seemed to me that Chicago was an odd fit with Eric Weems and Devin Hester on the team as returners. I wonder if this is the last we've seen of Thomas. I'm sure Kyle Williams hopes he never sees Devin Thomas running down a kick again.

I don't think I've ever been more wrong about a prospect than I was about Sweed...

It's not what happened, but what didn't happen. Never got healthy and once he did, was just way behind and not physically good enough to play in the NFL.

If the Redskins didn't take Thomas I'm fairly certain the Eagles would have. Dodged a bullet there.

It just didn't click for him at WR, but he was a great special teamer because he had great physical ability. Was disappointed the Giants didn't resign him, but it looks like they probably saw this coming.

Atleast he won a SB. A tad odd to retire now, but good luck.

Why are you shocked he didn't play for either of those teams?

Got his money, got his ring, now he plans to help kids...Gotta have respect for him.

I think he's assuming that Devin Thomas didn't want to quit and would've stayed in the NFL if he could have made a roster [Lions/Bengals].

ST would have been the only way he would have made it in this league.

When the Panthers sucked a few years ago, he couldn't even hold a roster spot and was cut after only a few weeks.
