2006 NFL DRAFT
I tried to be very realistic, considering team needs, free agency
and combine performances. Feel free to critique it, but please
provide reasons as to why you disagree, so I can make changes.
I'm not considering trades, as they are impossible to predict, although
I'm suggesting posibilities.
ROUND 1
1. Texans - Reggie Bush (RB, USC). No brainer. Jets might try to
trade with the texans, to take Bush themselves or to take Leinart.
If that happens, the Texans would take D'Brick at 4th.
2. Saints - Jay Cutler (QB, Vanderbilt). Surprise!. Reports are
that new coach Payton is in love with Cutler after watching him
at the combine, and have him rated higher than Leinart and Young.
Truth is, Cutler has more upside than Leinart, and Young is not
the kind of QB that Payton likes. Maybe the saints will get
a veteran QB to start the season and then let Cutler take over.
Another interesting trade might happen here with the Jets, so
the Jets can take Leinart here and then the Saints grab Cutler
at 4th.
3. Titans - Matt Leinart (QB, USC). They consider drafting Young,
and McNair has a little fight with Norm Chow, but Chow is the
winner at the end. Young has a great upside but also has a great
risk. Leinart is a much safer choice. He can take over McNair
in the middle of the season. Anyway, it's McNair last dance in
Tenesse.
4. Jets - D'Brickashaw Ferguson (OT, Virginia). Unable to trade for
Bush or Leinart, they make the safe pick. D'Brick will anchor their
line for the next decade.
5. Packers - Mario Williams (DE, NCST). They are rebuilding, and
SuperMario can have an impact similar to Julius Pepper. Hawk is
tempting here, but an elite DE is better than an elite LB.
6. 49rs - Vernon Davis (TE, Maryland). Probably not the position
the 49rs need most, but Davis showed huge at the combine, and
some regard him as the best player in this draft and to change
the standards of the position.
7. Raiders - Vince Young (QB, Texas). Finally, Young is drafted.
If somebody is willing to take huge risks that is Al Davis. Davis
can't wait to see how Young and Moss look together. Also, Moss'
presence (needing a CB and Safety to cover him) will allow Young
to find running holes easier. Maybe Collins can stay for 1 year,
so Young can work on his mechanics and learn how to read NFL
defenses.
8. Bills - Haloti Ngata (DT, Oregon). DT is the Bills biggest need
and they grab the best of the draft.
9. Lions - AJ Hawk (LB, Ohio State). Marinelli wants players with
attitude, and Hawk will be his leader in the defense. If somehow
Vernon Davis is still available, Martz would lobby hard to get him.
10. Cardinals - Lendale White (RB, USC). This is a hard pick for
the Cards. They need help big time on the O-line, but they settle
for a back that can handle a big workload. D'Angelo could also be
the pick here, it depends on how the individual workouts go.
11. Rams - Michael Huff (FS, Texas). They need to revamp the
secondary and take Huff here, probably the best DB in the draft.
12. Browns - Manny Lawson (DE/OLB, NCST). After the combine, Lawson
is regarded as the best DE/OLB to fit in a 3-4 system and that's
exactly what the Browns need.
13. Ravens - D'Angelo Williams (RB, Memphis). They need a new RB
to handle the load. If they however are able to keep Lewis or Taylor,
then they could take an OT.
14. Eagles - Santonio Holmes (WR, Ohio State). The eagles need to
load on WR to be competitive again. They take the best of this class.
15. Falcons - Jimmy Williams (FS, Virginia Tech). Falcons need help
in the secondary, and for some reason, they seem to like the Virginia
Tech products. Ko Simpson could also be the pick here.
16. Dolphins - Marcus McNeill (OT, Auburn). It seems they will get
Brees in FA, and need to make sure to protect him. McNeill can do
that and also will re-unite with Ronnie Brown. Winston Justice and
Jon Scott could go here as well.
17. Vikings - Lawrence Maroney (RB, Minnesota). They need a RB and
take the local hero.
18. Cowboys - Chad Greenway (ILB, Iowa). You read it here first.
Tuna is getting another LB for his defense. Greenway can play ILB
in the place of retired Nguyen. Demeco Ryans or Ernie Sims could
be another choice here, depending on what Tuna thinks. But here me:
Tuna will surprise us by taking an ILB here!. The Oline will be
addressed next round.
19. Chargers - Chad Jackson (WR, Florida). They need a really number
1 WR to grow old with Rivers. All the other positions seem set.
20. Chiefs - Ernie Sims (OLB, Florida). Herm need playmakers on
the defensive side, and that's what Sims is.
21. Patriots - Tye Hill (CB, Clemson). Belichik needs help in the
secondary. Hill's value increased after his incredible combine.
22. Broncos - Broderick Bunkley (DT, Florida St). The Broncos still
need help on the Dline. Bunkley will do that.
23. Bucs - Winston Justice (OT, USC). He covered Matt Leinart's
blindside and will do the same for Chris Simms.
24. Bengals - Ko Simpson (FS, South Carolina). They can improve
their secondary with Simpson.
25. Giants - Ernie Sims (OLB, FSU). They need a LB, and Sims is
worth the pick. Coughlin wants more power to his defense.
26. Bears - Sinorice Moss (WR, Miami). Maybe this is a reach, but
the Bears need more offensive weapons.
27. Panthers - Jon Scott (OT, Texas). They can use Scott to improve
his blocking. They need a RB but there is nobody worth his pick.
28. Jaguars - Demeco Ryans (OLB, Alabama). Demeco is too good to
pass up in this point for they.
29. Broncos - Mathias Kiwanuka (DE, Boston College). His stock has
dropped, but he can help improve the pass rushing in Denver.
30. Colts - Brian Calhoun (RB, Wisconsin). This is a reach, but all
the top RB are gone and the colts really need to draft one.
31. Seahawks - Max Jean Gilles (OG, Georgia). They already have a
good line, but they will make it better. A WR could also be the
pick here.
32. Steelers - Martin Nance (WR, Miami (OH)). Roethlisberger will
push Cowhert to draft his favorite receiver from college. Also,
they need to cover the Randle El departure. _________________ Go Bucs !! |

Cutler going #2, especially before Leinart? That alone makes this an average mock.
If there was a option worse than average, i would consider it. The Charger pick is bad. We are definitly not set at a few positions, like both Safeties, a #2 corner, and we need a 2 or 3 Olinemen. All of that has to happen before we take a WR in the first. |

| good mock. I don't see the niners passing up on Hawk as he could play ILB or OLB in there 3-4. arizona would take v. davis at 10, which then changes a few other picks, but overall i like this mock. oh, the colts probably wouldn't reach for calhoun. they can trade up in the 2nd or just find a guy in 2 or 3 round. Nice Mock |

| No way Dallas takes Greenway as an inside linebacker. His positives are coverage and the ability to play well in space. His knocks- he doesn't shed blockers well! Not a good combination for an inside linebacker! |

I think there should be a terrible in your poll. Awful Eagles pick. We do not need to adress the WR position in the first round. We have bigger needs like SLB and OT. _________________

Bad Colts pick he'll be there in the second, they would go with an LB there, most likely B. Carpenter.
(p.s. you have sims going twice) _________________

| Demeco would be a solid Jags pick if we don't address LB in free agency. |
