Coates would be a star in the Serie A. He would still be a top CB in the Premier League with his intelligence and skill but his pace has to be an issue for managers. The Serie A style just fits his game more and I would love to see him thrive there.
Good to see the Coutinho deal done. Really excited that he can bring versatility on winger and behind the striker. _________________

I know it's cliche to say, but I just can't believe anything until either of them are shown shaking Ayre's hand. _________________

It's stupid with Coates, he'd be perfectly fine in the Premier League. _________________

#LFC have agreed an £8.5m deal for Inter Milan's Brazilian midfielder, Philipe Coutinho. More on @BBCSport shortly. |

Coutinho expected on Merseyside early next week. LFC still need to apply for a work permit for the 20-year-old. |

Nice!
I read a scouting report on him at TIA, and it seemed he was quite a good addition. And we didn't extravagantly overpay. He's a prospect for the future, but he gives us much needed depth.
Now just give me a DM and I'll be happy! (even though Ince might be rumored to be in as well) _________________

Worried about this work permit business. When's the last time they had to deal with that?
Seems the consensus that if/when Coutinho is dealt with, that Liverpool will try to go after Ince before the window closes. Don't know how that will work out since Oyston seems pretty stubborn.
Edit: According to someone fairly reliable, here's apparently how it went down with Coutinho:
Quote: | Stephen Martin @stephen1martin
Initial offer was 7.25m. Inter ask 12.5m. Get 1.1m from Insua. Up offer to 8.35m. Inter say SFC offer 10m. We refuse to budge. Inter accept. |

Posted this in the transfer thread. Confirmed Coutinho deal agreement from The Times.

Gotta get that work permit out of the way now.
Apparently Liverpool scouts were at the Melbourne Victory- Hearts game to scout Marco Rojas. Seen some videos on him. Looks talented, but obviously at a much lower league. Don't know where he'd fit in if he came here.
Edit: And I realize this is a stretch. Not expecting anything to happen even if it was for sure confirmed, but according to superjack on RAWK, he said he heard Romain Alessandrini was recently scouted. Now maybe Rojas and Romain were back-up options to Coutinho or perhaps BR is planning something different. _________________

Abysmal performances all around. Especially from Skrtel and Coates. Hope Rodgers can get the squad focused and ready for Wednesday. _________________

I just watched the game. It was a really poor performance especially from the back line. Coates and Robinson were extremely disappointing for me because this is the level of competition that they should be succeeding against. I know for Coates playing in these situation is tough but if you want to play in England you have to be able to go up against these tough physical teams and crap weather conditions. However, these two are technically more talented than any other player on Oldham and shouldn't be out played be them. Skrtel was also crap. As a veteran, you expect a lot better. He was a top CB last season and has been quite underwhelming this season. No wonder Rodgers is looking for another CB... Also not going for another FB is even more baffling now. _________________

So, I guess getting in Ince this window will be more important since he could temporarily fill in at LB. Would be ideal if BR isn't planning on anyone to fill in at one of the wing back spots. _________________

I thought I remember when he was with Liverpool before that he played there. Could be misremembering that.
Edit: Btw, unrelated to Ince, here's Romain Alessandrini.

Ince at LB should not be an option. That is similar to Downing at LB. Even if he did play at the reserves level that was the reserves level. He hasn't played FB for two years now and is a natural attacking player all while playing superbly there. To say that getting in Ince and he would be cover at LB is just stupidity if that is what Liverpool is thinking. _________________
