Let's say that the Jaguars recievers end up playing well with the additions of Blackmon and Robinson, the Offensive line plays about as good as last season, Blaine Gabbert proves himself enough to the point where we decide to not even consider drafting a QB, and everything else is relatively constant on our team throughout the entire next season.
With these in mind, what position would we draft?
DE for more depth and playmaking ability on our defense?
CB to replace Mathis who is going to most likely play his last season with Jacksonville?
or an Offensive Lineman to upgrade a line that is in need of an upgrade?
In my opinion the scenario that I see playing out is the drafting of an Offensive Tackle to solidify our line. Honestly the addition of one great tackle would greatly improve our entire line as RT has been the main issue for a while. _________________

If Gabbert fails, we will need a QB definitely. Outside of that, Corner is my biggest need. Cox has struggled to stay healthy, tough to depend on him, and Mathis is getting up there in age as well all know. |

Linebacker.
The guy from Notre Dame would be a great fit. _________________

Linebacker.
Jarvis Jones, Sean Porter (have blizting ability)
Manti Te'O (OLB/coverage type)
Andrew Jackson (Paul Pos, with better coverage abiltiy)
Session wont be back, Allen isn't the answer, and will be exposed throughout the year. _________________

I don't think he would stck up against any of the 4 listed if they came down to BPA. _________________

Not willing to put OLB yet, we'll see how Allen/Stanford/etc plays. |

You can NEVER have too many pass rushers.
That will alleviate the imminent need for a CB and allows us to also address the O-Line with the picks.
A TE would be a nice pick up also though... _________________ People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.

I'd like someone on the OL, we have no depth at all right now assuming everyone is healthy _________________

Right now I'm leaning towards corner in the first round next year. Te'O would be an awesome pick though. _________________

Sorry for not putting an "other" option by the way. Linebacker is an interesting pick, I don't know that I can see it but if the talented pick is there, maybe. _________________

For the first point, I could see Jones/Porter making sense, as they can both rush and cover quite well, something like a Von Miller, minus the speed/explosion.
Tight End is only a need if you are willing to move Montell Owens or spend a top-pick on one...the top 2 (Eifert/Fiedorowicz) can catch, block like an additional OT, and have great size/speed makeups with Fiedorowicz having the best, along with the best all around game. Then you could move down to later rounds and get an HBack or field stretching TE in many ways....this is a great class for a Tight End. _________________

Good Point. An elite DE that is successfully drafted would be very beneficial compared to many other positions.

If Gabbert is a mess, then QB is probably the way to go. But i really hope that's not the case. Even if it is, in a 'relatively positive' season, i'd almost just as soon try to grab a guy in round 2 and see where that takes us.
Realistically, outside of that dire situation, i'd say O-Line or Linebacker, depending on who is still on the board and how much i like them + how well they would fit what we need. The O-line is going to need work regardless, as is LB, where we have a hole that i worry is going to be very exposed this season.
But there's a lot of football still to be played... |
