| Quote: | | Jarrett was widely viewed as a reach when the Eagles selected him with the 54th overall pick in last year's draft. Although he was billed as an athletic hard hitter, Jarrett's instincts never developed. Often left floundering in coverage, Jarrett also showed a penchant for taking bad angles and missing tackles. Though he was given plenty of opportunities to win a starting job, Jarrett had tumbled to third-team defense after a disastrous preseason opener a month ago |
Jarrett was an epic bust for being a 2nd round pick. Some of us had high to moderately-high hopes for him, but he never showed us anything up until this point.
Normally, the Eagles do not admit their colossal failures this early on in the process, but I guess a new page is being turned as far as the team's philosophy goes. _________________

Hated the pick at the time, but I got sucked in and thought "Hey this guy can hit hard"...
Surprised they cut him. _________________

If you made them shorter, slower, and with worse instincts, maybe. |

Lmao I read "Dwayne Jarrett". I was so confused from the Taylor Mays/Roy Williams comparison. _________________

Williams actually made some plays early on in his career. To think the Cowboys drafted him over some other safety that year. What was his name again...
But Jarrett never had enough instincts to play the safety position in the NFL, he was always a step slow. _________________ Patrick Peterson - 92 targets, 40 catches allowed, 602 yards, 6 TD's, 7 INT's

| I find this surprising only because I don't think the eagles are that strong at safety. their depth isn't that strong and their starters have had some injury problems in the past if I recall correctly. I wonder who they might pick up if they want another db on the roster. |

| I do give organizations credit when they cut bait as soon as they realize it isn't working. Keeping a guy who doesn't deserve it only compunds the error. Take the hit and keep it moving. |

| I just dont understand how a team could use a 2nd round pick on a player, just to release that player one year later. You have to question the Eagles scouting dept. in this situation, complete failure on their behalf. |

I suppose - but you could argue that cutting your losses and moving on is a product of a sound organization. Better than letting him eat up a roster spot. Not all draft picks can be hits - the team took a chance on a prospect in the hopes he would develop into a contributing member of the defense. He obviously showed some unfixable flaws and the eagles gave him the pink slip. Poor draft choice (every team makes bad ones) but I applaud the stones to say "you're not good enough, goodbye" |

Jarrett was the least valuable on the team, and we needed to sign a receiver (if Maclin can't play Sunday, that would leave us with only 3 healthy WRs).
I wouldn't be surprised if Gilyard is cut and Jarrett re-signed when Maclin and Cooper are healthy again.
But, yes, it's certainly looking like a bad pick. In fairness to the scouting department, they're usually pretty good. |

I agree. It's a calculated risk with little downside. Gilyard will be a 1-3 week rental most likely until both Maclin and more specifically Riley Cooper is fit to play from the broken collar bone. Eagles can't go into the Ravens game with only 3 healthy WR!! If Jarrett is scooped up off waivers the Eagles move forward with Simms and Anderson (once healthy). If not they re-sign JJ, drop Gilyard and hope a fire has been lite as a wake up call. No matter where your picked your not safe, step up! Any other player cut Tapp, Polk, Thorton, etc would have been scooped up immediately. _________________

Not surprised. From what I saw of Jarrett, it was horrid. What was the hype with him? It couldn't have just been his ability to make a big hit _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |
