Exactly. Carolina is the most overated team in the league. Detroit was at least good and still are.

Most people didn't even consider him a top ten quarterback. Unless we're referring to the media and even then, if you look at the ESPN and NFL preseason predictions, most had Atlanta or New Orleans winning the NFC South. If anything, that is more true for Stafford - far more people had him as a top ten quarterback already. Which is why far less people are questioning his skills like they have for Cam despite Stafford at this point not even playing as well as Cam has.
I don't think either team was overhyped. But both teams are, at the same time, not playing up to their expectations. I'd say the main overhype for Carolina was Ryan Kalil guaranteeing a Super Bowl, so if we're counting that then them I guess. |

I think more than anything the quarterbacks were massively overrated, particularly Newton. I remember seeing an article on NFL.com right before the season started that had Newton in the same tier as Brady, Rodgers, Brees, and Manning. For what it's worth, these are some numbers on Newton's passing yards:
Record when throwing for:
Under 210 yards: 5-0
Between 211-299 yards: 1-6
Over 300 yards: 0-4

I expected "back to earth" years for both Cam and Stafford this year.
Kansas City is the most disappointing from where I rated them. |
