There are 5 starting QBs in the league in their second year...and almost all of them look improved from last year. The only one who seems to have not taken a big step forward is Cam....
My question to you is....right now who is the best 2nd year QB in the league? Not who has the highest ceiling, but right now who is the best QB..
My answer: Andy Dalton.
He struggled against Baltimore in the opener....Then caught on fire against Cleveland and Washington. I realize that those aren't the greatest defenses...but you can't ignore it. He is playing very, very good football. He looks like a true franchise QB out there and has an incredible command of the offense. All this despite only having one truly good receiver and not much of a run game.
Cam Newton:
63.9% 798 yards 2 td 5 int 9.61 YPA
24 att 81 yards 2 td
Andy Dalton:
68.4% 867 yards 6 td 3 int 9.13 YPA
8 att 31 yards 0 td
Christian Ponder:
70.1% 713 yards 4 td 0 int 7.35 YPA
11 at 41 yds 1 td
Jake Locker:
64.4% 781 yards 4 td 2 int 7.51 YPA
8 att 67 yards 0 td
Blaine Gabbert:
50.6% 468 yards 4 td 0 int 5.92 YPA
8 att 22 yards 0 td _________________

None of these QBs are playing better ball right now then Christian Ponder. He's really taken a big step this year and looks to be on his way to being a very good QB. _________________

Locker and Dalton wil be the two best QBs from this draft class 15 years from now.
With that being said, Locker is the best QB right now out of this draft class. No Homerism here _________________

I'm probably in the minority here but I was actually more impressed with Dalton against the Ravens then I was against the Browns. Not trying to take a shot at the Browns, but with their depleted secondary, Dalton was able to hit some pretty open receivers deep to inflate his stats.
Against the Ravens it went downhill at the end, but he was playing a good game I thought sans the misses to AJ Green.
He looked really good against the Skins but again it's another banged up defense... _________________

Cam.. He'll Win and Loose you guys. But he's a force.
No D cordintaor will lose sleep over Ginger and Ponder.
Just good game managers.
Those guys reminds me of Matt Hesselbeck. _________________

How can you argue that Cam's been better this year? _________________

I like the Ponder kid...but Cam will turn it around and start destroying the league again. _________________

Cam has struggled out of the gate, but I'd still rather have him as my QB than any other 2nd year QB. _________________

Ponder is playing really good right now, but I think Dalton is the best of the bunch. _________________

3 games isn't enough to put Gabbert, Ponder, or Locker into the discussion.
Dalton and Newton both had good rookie seasons, with Newton's arguably being the greatest rookie QB performance ever. He has struggled early on this year, but I still think the carry-over from last year is enough for me to say he's probably the QB of the class at this very moment.
Dalton is sneaking up there though. He's been looking pretty good. Ponder and Locker are pretty close to one another, probably with Locker getting a slight edge because of his athleticism. Gabbert is just bad. He looked decent in week 1, but that's pretty much the only decent performance he's had in his career. _________________

I would still take Newton. His rookie season was so great. Dalton hasnt really moved much for me. Ponder is on the rise. I still dont know what to think about Jake Locker. Locker had a rough game against SD, a solid game against the Pats and a great game against the Lions. Id probably put him on the rise slightly, though with Houston next, I think he is in for a rough week and that will probably sour people's opinions of Locker for the time being. As for Blaine Gabbert, I am just not sure. I would put him as the worst of the bunch. Gabbert looked real solid week 1, but he still threw below 60%. Gabbert has since been awful. Throwing below 50% is just inexcusable.
1. Newton
2. Dalton
3. Ponder
4. Locker
5. Gabbert
But in terms of who is playing the best THIS season:
1. Andy Dalton
2. Christian Ponder
3. Jake Locker
4. Cam Newton
5. Blaine Gabbert |

| Ponder is having the best year so far. But Cam will be better. Then Dalton Locker and Gabbert in that order. |

Cam Newton, based off of his rookie success. Dalton and Ponder are also pretty solid. I like Locker's potential.
