I would contend that when discussing the defense and its star players the conversation starts with either Ware or Lee. I have no doubt some would reference Carr, or highlight Mo's potential. I am sure some would equivocate Hatcher's defensive stands or how Ratliff can come back and light the world on fire. But the real crux of the matter rests on Ware and Lee.

So. Who do you think is the better Dallas Defender? Why? Who is more important? Explore your feelings, back them up. I want spirited discussion, so no polls will be added.

Some food for thought:

Lee leads the league in tackles. Is our signal caller on Defense.

Ware leads the league in Forced Fumbles. He is tied for 3rd in Sacks.

You rarely see either get beat in their respective jobs.

Lee excels in coverage, is an excellent tackler and is rarely caught out of position. He is almost always around the ball. He also has a great ability at creating turnovers, especially interceptions.

Ware is arguably the best 3-4 OLB in the game. He's an elite player and the defense would not be the same without him. This year, there's been a few games (Chicago, in particular) where I thought he should have had a bigger game. Whether it's the lack of a rushing threat opposite him, or being dropped back into coverage...he just hasn't been able to get into the backfield this season as much as some of the other "elite" defensive players to this point in the season.

That said, Ware (as I mentioned earlier), is probably the best at his respective position. Lee is probably in the top five, but not the best, that honor belonging to Pat Willis. In either case, if Lee goes down the defense is in trouble. If Ware goes down, same thing. So it's honestly hard to rank who is more important to this team, as in my opinion they are both very important. If I had to absolutely choose, however, I guess I would have to go with Ware as he plays the most important (next to NT) position in the 3-4 defense.

I think that it is too close to call. Without Lee commanding attention of opposing blockers, Ware would get double and triple teamed and vice versa. They are the perfect compliment for each other.

Lee is the defender. As the word defender goes. Most tackles. Most activity. Plays ILB. Involved more. Lee is our best defender.

Ware is our play maker. Sacks. Forced fumbles. Double teams. game planned for.

Their relationship is like the relationship of Tom Brady and Randy Moss during their big year together. Brady was the steady offense, but Moss made the plays.

He goes down, I think the middle of the defense falls apart. Ware goes down, I don't think as much changes.

Ware still gets doubled and tripled team. I don't know how Lee's presence reduces the double and triple teams that Ware faces each game since Ware is often rushing the passer while Lee is operating in space. If Lee was the opposite OLB and also rushing the QB, I could see the point that you're making.

I disagree with Dahobo (no surprise). Without Ware, the team's pass rush would be anemic. Ware is the main player on defence that offences scheme around, often drawing double and triple teams or running away from him (like Chicago did last night). The team also doesn't have a capable backup to replace Ware's production or even come close to it.

I think Lee may be the better all-around LB than Ware, but he doesn't have quite the same impact. With the emergence of Bruce Carter and Dan Connor being a solid backup, I don't think the Boys would lose much if Lee went down. If Ware goes down, opposing QBs could set up shop in the pocket since the pass rush would be non-existent.

Both are great, and will continue to be awesome on mediocre 8-8 teams for years to come.

Ware has more impact plays, Lee has more plays.

Ware gains more attention, Lee gets some attention

Easily ware

I disagree that is that easy of a decision. Remember 2 years ago? We had Ware, Bradie James, Keith Brooking and Spencer as our starting LB's. Teams had a ton of success running the ball and passing over the middle against us. Then, last year, Lee steps in as a starter and opposing teams had a lot less success up the middle. Even with a broken wrist wrapped up like a club, Lee still made his presence felt in the middle.

This team would suck without Ware. We would have little to no pass rush. But, this team sucked with Ware and without Lee. So, while Ware might have a bigger impact, it is a lot closer than some of you are stating.

It's a close call for me. Ware has done things as a pass rusher that almost no one in history has. I think I would have to choose him. But Sean Lee is closing the gap. He's becoming a true star.

Is this some immaculate deception to distract us from that abomination last night?
