I know what you're thinking, Villain is definitely drinking and posting (again) trying to compare these two. But hear me out.
In the 2006 NFL draft, the Bengals had the 55th pick in the 2nd round and the Bears had the 57th pick. After the draft there were numerous stories about how the 55th pick came down to Andrew Whitworth or Devin Hester for the Bengals. Both teams got great value out their 2nd round pick, but who do you think was the better pick? |

The only lineman I'm taking over Devin Hester is Dan Connolly. |

It's an interesting question
I doubt that the Bears get to the Superbowl in 2006 without Hester.
But Whitworth would have given them a legit LT option. How would the O-Line be in Chicago now with Whitworth and Carimi as bookends?
Based on position, Whitworth is the better pick. |

Devin Hester is the best of all time at what he does. You can draft an Andrew Whitworth this year, next year, so on and so forth. _________________

Who would be better: Hester at OT or Whitworth at KR/PR? That's the real question. |

Give me Hester as well. Just an amazing kick returner and a decent reciever as well. _________________ I bought one of those tapes to teach you Spanish in your sleep. During the night, the tape skipped. Now I can only stutter in Spanish.

The Bengals made the right pick, they got a great LT. I think most should prefer a great startling LT over a standout special teams player. Though Whitworth played OG at the beginning of his career, so it wasnt an immediate transition to LT. |

I really was unsure coming into this thread about which I'd take, but this is a good point. Perhaps Whitworth isn't easy to find, but you can find quality OTs... getting a guy who is the most dangerous return man in the history of the game.. is something that can't be understated. I agree, Hester would be the pick... unless I already have a Joshua Cribbs, than I'd go with the positional value.
EDIT: Then again, I suppose it would depend on what kind of condition my offensive line was in as well. If it was an abysmal unit, I'd go Whitworth, but if it was average- maybe a little above, than Hester's value shines. With a great QB, Hester's ability to gain field position would probably be even more valuable to the offense than the QB having a very good LT to help with elite pass rushers. If I'm a QB, I'd rather consistently have a short field to work with as opposed to one great pass protector. It's so close a call though. Hard to go wrong with either. _________________

Tough choice. But in the end I would pick Whit again. He is a team leader and is a stellar LT _________________

Hester, both before the draft and using 20/20. Now say if it was in the first round and picking between a OT and Hester, I'd say the other way around simply because you can't gamble with first round picks in my opinion. But come mid-late second round you aren't getting a sure-fire pick and that is what makes me sway towards Hester. Hester at the time could have been an all-star on so many levels. He was drafted to be a DB, however he didn't fit Lovies Tampa 2 whatsoever(not physical enough). Put in the right situation and he isn't just a special team player. And even if he is - he is one of those rare talents that puts points on the board consistently. _________________

Isnt Whit a Top-5 LT? I think taking him would have helped their anemic offense more than some think _________________

I dont think Hester does even half as well anywhere else... The Chicago ST was great before he arrived... Anyone remember Nathan Vasher? The Chicago ST coach needs a head coaching job. _________________

I take Andrew Whitworth without thinking twice. Hester is great at what he does but it's just not that valuable. _________________
