http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/story/_/id/8517121/alex-rodriguez-trade-discussed-offseason-new-york-yankees-miami-marlins-source-says
| Quote: | DETROIT -- What began as a casual, joking conversation between New York Yankees president Randy Levine and Miami Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria about the possibility of Alex Rodriguez playing for the Marlins may develop into serious trade talks this offseason, according to a source with knowledge of the conversation.
According to the source, Levine and Loria discussed the possibility of A-Rod playing in Miami, his hometown, but characterized it as a joke between old friends.
The conversation between the Yankees and Marlins initially was reported by Keith Olbermann on his MLB.com "Nerd Blog." Variety also reported the news.

lol, I wonder if they could re-do that show that followed the Marlins during the season. It would be freaking hilarious.
The baseball gods owe us this. Ozzie and A-Rod would a trainwreck that we'd all want to see

This should stay in the rumors thread until it's not just a rumor anymore and a done deal. _________________

If Miami trades for A-Rod, they have problems. _________________

Realistically the Yankees would have to eat like $85 M.
Fun thought exercise: what non-financial, non-player compensation would the Yankees be willing to give Miami in exchange for A-Rod.
Like, would Brian Cashman be willing to make a video where he sings milkshake in a bikini if the Marlins take A-Rod? Would he be willing to root for the Red Sox passionately all year? Would he be willing to follow Nicki Minaj on a world tour for 6 months? Etc. etc. _________________

Doubt anything happens. Plus, I feel like A-Rod is being wrongly victimized for the Yankees' offensive struggles when just about everyone else is struggling as well. _________________

I'd be willing to bet the Yankees can get Miami to eat some of that contract if they give up a solid prospect or nice pick...
Perhaps that comp pick from Pittsburgh can come into play in some way? _________________ Come Follow My Oakland Multi-Sport Franchise! |

Yes, you can. Compensatory picks are able to be traded. There have already been several trades invloving picks in the past few months. _________________

Oh my bad then. Didn't know comp picks could be traded. _________________

Only the ones given to small market teams. As much as the Wilpons make it seem as if the Mets should qualify, neither New York team will ever be in contention for these picks. _________________
