Here is what I posted in this topic originally..I don't know why it won't show up though.
Perry was just informed of this. Announced by Tom Silverstein. I think it's a bit ridiculous as I didn't even think the hit even warranted a flag, let alone a fine. I'd have to look at it again to be sure though.

I don't know why my first two posts didn't work.
=========================================
Just announced by Tom Silverstein. Perry was informed today.
I think it's really ridiculous. I didn't even think there should have been a flag there, let alone a fine. Looked legal to me. I'd have to watch it again to be sure though. Thoughts?

Had this argument in the general gameday thread when it happened.
QB in the pocket is considered defenseless
You cannot hit a defenseless player anywhere with the hairline or crown of your helmet.
He clearly hit him with the hairline.
No question it was a penalty.
Given that most of these defenseless player hits have been getting $21,000 fines, the reduced fine indicates that the league understands this wasn't a truly dangerous play. There was no intent. No real risk of serious head injury (obvious since he didn't hit him in the head). But it is a personal foul nonethless and they almost all get fined.
This is a just result. _________________

It was not helmet to helmet. The reason it was a fine is because he lowered the crown of his helmet into his chest. Perry's helmet never touched Luck but it was still an illegal hit by rule. _________________

Its not even worth sacking the Quarterback anymore. Especially for rookies that these fines could actually hurt. _________________

I expect Ingram to receiver a similar fine. _________________

| Its a joke... he didn't hit him from the blind side, he really isn't defenseless when the guy is coming right at him.... |

Debatable whether or not it was penalty-worthy, but a BS fine undoubtedly. _________________

No it's really not.
Maybe whether it should be a rule is debateable, but there is NO question based on the rules that was a penalty. _________________

Yea based on what you said, I agree. Since the rule is what it is, it's a penalty. But I think that's unfortunate because I don't think the rule should be that way. The NFL is getting a bit extreme with this. I'm all for protecting the players and their safety. Nobody wants to see a DHB scenario to anyone, ever. But this hit was nothing close to that..not even in the same ballpark. I am a firm believer that in this scenario, a hit like that should be fair game. Seemed to me like a normal tackle that occurs in the game (one that didn't jeopardize Luck's safety and health) and when the rule is restrictive to the extent that it is right now, it starts to effect the game that we all watch and love. Players play different and it changes games. No way should a hit like that be classified as a penalty in the rule book. So my whole argument is that the rule needs to be changed now that you've educated me on what it actually is.
And to fine him on it? The best word I can come up with to describe that right now is lame. _________________
