I doubt he leaves, but I also don't doubt that he won't pull an Alex Smith and at least take the interview with Jerruh in order to boost the value of the contract he gets from Benson, who sadly (for an owner who was very clear in his desire for anything remotely resembling a bounty system to not be implemented by the team he owned) is in a lose/lose situation as far as public image goes. Either he cuts ties with the coach that helped restore his franchise to the limelight and bring it a Lombardi trophy, or he's painted as the guy who is "rewarding" a coach coming off a year-long suspension for a system he (Benson) was outspoken against with the richest coaching contract in league history. _________________

20-25 teams in the league could potentially be vying for his services. He'd be stupid not to at least field some offers. _________________

Why? He's in a perfect spot in NO. Everything is set up for him with Brees, a ton of receivers, etc. _________________

Why did the NFL void the contract? _________________

Think it was because there was something that said he could leave the team if Loomis was fired/suspended? _________________

Why? He's in a perfect spot in NO. Everything is set up for him with Brees, a ton of receivers, etc. | Defense in shambles. Forfeited draft picks. Mickey Loomis. Tom Benson.
We could see some prime coaching real estate being vacated.
Belichick and Coughlin could be retiring. Andy Reid is on the hot seat. And regardless of what the team looks like, there's a certain level of prestige that comes with being the coach of the Cowboys.
Those are some alluring prospects. _________________

If the Saints never got in trouble this contract wouldn't be voided but now it is. It's kind of shady. _________________

Yeah, I'm more upset that it gives the tin-foil hat Saint fans more ammo...but it's definitely weird that Goodell approved it and then decided now that it isn't going to fly. _________________

I don't see Payton going anywhere else, he'll end up re-signing with the Saints. He certainly has all the leverage in the contract talks though, if he wants to milk more money out of it. _________________

But Drew Brees and an offensive machine is also very alluring to an offensive minded coach. Payton and Brees are perfect together and I can't see him wanting to leave the offense he's built to go start over with a clean slate.
But I don't know the man personally, maybe he's hated being the head coach for the past few seasons and this is a perfect way to escape without insulting the fans. _________________ Kickers are people too |

Yeah, can't see Payton going anywhere either. I figure once his suspension is lifted he'll sign to a new deal in New Orleans. _________________ Mmmm...Sacrelicious! |
