|

|
Quote: | LOS ANGELES -- Monte Kiffin will resign from his post as USC's de facto defensive coordinator after the Trojans' December bowl game, he announced Thursday.
The 72-year-old Kiffin, who came to USC when his son, Lane, was hired as coach in January 2010, said in a statement he plans to pursue opportunities in the NFL. He said he made his resignation announcement now to help USC's recruiting efforts and to keep attention on the team's bowl-game preparation.

Monte Kiffin wasn't really effective in his final few years at Tampa Bay, his schemes are outdated. Having said that, he's still a defensive genius and if he can change his strategies to combat the modern NFL he could be a decent pickup somewhere as a defensive coordinator, or assistant coach of some sort. _________________ With much cheese,

Yeah, Kiffin wasn't much of a co-ordinator during his first stint in the NFL. Can't see him being any better during this stint if he does come back. _________________ I bought one of those tapes to teach you Spanish in your sleep. During the night, the tape skipped. Heeeeeeh? He was considered one of the best in the game.
Issue is that the C2 is a bit outdated at this point and it doesn't seem like(judging on what he did at USC), he's making enough changes to keep up with the modern game. Lovie Smith has made the necessary changes in Chicago to keep it effective but for the most part, the C2 base has been dropped from the NFL. Which is crazy considering quite a few teams used it in the late 90s/early 2000s. Shows how quickly things change and how things run in cycles. _________________

I think Monte just got fired by his own son. College football's a ruthless business. _________________

He never should have left, although I'd gladly welcome him back.
Plus the Glazers would probably make back a lot of money if they brought him back to Tampa. |

USC had never allowed 60 points until they played Oregon this year with Monte calling the defense.
I was hoping he'd stay there as he allows tons of points. _________________

It's official: John Gruden will be an NFL head coach in 2013. I was hoping he'd run a college program - I think he would have Nick Saban like success. |

Just no, Being a Bucs and Trojans fan I do not support this message.
Monte was regressing in his last years at Tampa and if he wasn't responsible for our lone Super Bowl I would down right hate the man after what he did in USC. Like it has been said, he refuses to adapt his style to what teams are doing now. Kiffin is only allowed to come to our 10 anniversary for the Super Bowl and then he can promptly leave One Buc. |

Thought the same thing. He hasn't been super impressive at USC. Every game I've seen their D performance was pretty embarrassing.. |

Kiffin is an overrated raisin.
But he'll get a job regardless because of the Tampa defense he was apart of.
It might be possible his defense was so bad in college because it's too complex for college players to adjust to, and possibly lack of talent. Or maybe he's too stubborn to adjust. _________________ Kickers are people too
