They are putting the blame on guys who shouldn't be blamed
| Quote: | PHILADELPHIA (CBS) – The Eagles have dismissed defensive line coach Jim Washburn, the team announced.
Washburn will be replaced by former Eagles defensive line coach Tommy Brasher. Brasher was the Eagles defensive line coach in 1985, and again from 1999-2005. |

Except he should be blamed. His scheme designed specifically to generate pressure and get sacks isn't generating enough pressure or resulting in enough sacks. Huge drop off when compared to our DL last season. _________________

| This is getting incredibly embarrassing for the Eagles. Firing two coaches through a season suggests that there is a much bigger problem with the organization, especially considering how much worse the defence got after firing Castillo. While I can imagine that Lurie doesn't want to fire Andy mid-season out of respect for all he is done, it might be better for him. At this point it might be classier for Andy to resign, rather than blaming everyone else. |

Wasn't he a great OL coach? Wouldn't mind the Lions looking to bring him in. _________________ Kate Upton for sexy President!!!

You may be thinking of Juan Castillo or Howard Mudd there. Certainly not Washburn. _________________

| I don't think Andy is blaming anyone other than himself and letting these guys go, he is simply giving them an OUT.. and a head start on next seasons job search. All the Coaches are likely to be gone after the season and Andy is simply giving them a head start.. if you really stop and think about it, Andy is doing them a favor.. he really is. |

You're thinking of Juan Castillo, who was already released. Jim Washburn has always been a DL coach.

I thought Washburn was this great Dline coach who was widely known around the NFL, and would help lead the Eagles to have this great Dline.
Seems to be getting worse and worse in Philly. _________________

It never seemed to click. Last year we got tons of sacks but our DL sucked against the run, this year we haven't been doing much of either despite being pretty loaded with talent.
Castillo might have been a scapegoat, but Washburn's unit wasn't getting it done - and when, unlike the OL, it's not a talent issue, who can you blame but the coach?
Plus Washburn and Reid were known to butt heads a bit, so that could be part of it. Supposedly Washburn was very upset with Babin's release (which could be an indication that Washburn isn't too bright).

Reid knows a housecleaning is coming anyway maybe he's just giving his best coaches a headstart on the job search. idk the Eagles are like a comedy show at this point. _________________

Sure, but the DL wasn't perfect last year either (great at pass rushing, bad against the run) and when it's not an issue of talent there's no one to blame but the coach. |

He probably deserved to be fired, especially with Washburn's public comments about being pissed because of Babin's release.
But it seems pretty pointless. The season is over and everyone's getting fired anyway. _________________

He jumped ship before Fisher's final season to find more security. Looks like that didn't last long. _________________

Who knows? I would not be the least bit surprised if Reid keeps his job. |
