No question Rice should get the ball more frequently. But to me this reads as "The Ravens just fired Joe Flacco's last remaining excuse."
If he doesn't show major improvement, he should not be retained.

Exactly. Also, ANY type of short passing game implemented will help this offense drastically.

Nothing odd about it. The timing is actually brilliant. They want to get a chance to evaluate Flacco in Cam's absence so they can make an informed decision as to whether or not to give him that big next deal.
