The Question has to be asked. Assuming one is going to be traded in the offseason, who would you want to retain?
On one hand you have Williams, who until recently looked like his better days were behind him. However during the win streak he has looked like the 2008 version of himself and is making huge explosive plays.
Then you have Stewart. He has less milage on the tank, but has started to develop an injury problem and can be viewed as less reliable for the entire season.
Who do we keep? _________________

Stewart, all day.
Tolbert is the man, too.
Trade or cut D-Will. _________________

There is nothing Stewart can do that Tolbert cannot.
Williams. |

Williams doesn't have an injury issue, and I think he'll play better as the lone back. He needs a lot of carries to get into a rhythm, which he'll finally get as the main guy with Tolbert just there for a spell here and there. Also Stewart has more trade value. |

Williams goes down to first contact way too much, has had off and on issues with drops and is pretty meh in pass protection. Not to mention he's about to be 30. Give me Stewie. _________________

DWill hands down.. We all know JStew has problems staying healthy do you not think other teams know this as well? So for the people on here that thinks we can get a 2nd for him Good Luck at trying. Might get a 3rd/early 4th if we're lucky. IMO _________________

what do people actually like about stewart over williams besides the fact that he is younger? stewart has NEVER yes NEVER proven anything to me. dwill has time and time again. and was a top back before stewart came around, and the last couple weeks was a top back without him. hopefully this continues. |

I agree with this. Stewart is injury prone and I can't ever remember him breaking off a long run. |

-Williams with a solid Oline can be easily 1,200-1,500yd rusher + stay healthy
-Tolbert can take Stewarts load and can handle 20-30 carries a game
Tolbert & Williams no question _________________

Even if you want to say they are equal, which might be the case, Stewart is younger. So him.
And Williams has a history of health issues as well and has missed more games than Stew has since 2008 IIRC.
But I will say people are seriously underrating Stewart in this thread. He absolutely can break off long runs. Just look at when we gave him the starting role at the end of the '09 season when Williams got hurt. _________________

Oh please, Williams goes off against one of the worst defenses in NFL history and suddenly everybody thinks he is still the 25 year old Williams. He'll be 30 in the offseason, and will only have 1-2 more productive years (2 at most!), while Stewart will only be 26 in March. Way more upside from Stewart, who prior to this season had only missed 2 games in his career!
Also, Stewart's numbers would be much better this year if Chud didn't call stupid run plays like the shotgun draw...Stewart needs momentum when he hits the line! |

It's difficult to choose but I like both guys.
Tolbert just makes Stewart expendable. DeAngelo is the unique back on this team. He's busting huge plays off screens and handoffs with a terrible offensive line. Stewart wouldn't finish those plays with TDs.
DeAngelo is just more of a weapon.

But this isn't that offense. Stewart did nothing when he was starting this year. The run was never consistent this season but DeAngelo changes games with his TDs.

Short-sighted thread. You guys just forget what Stewart can do. _________________

I wonder if a new regime might consider letting go of both. Really depends on how the contracts really break down (in terms of penalty to cut, etc), but I could see that as a possibility. With how much Cam is used in the running game, and Tolbert's great situational value, I think its possible. |
