There's a Bill O'Brien sweepstakes? I honestly don't understand how one season as a coordinator for New England (of all places, that history hasn't been good) and one year as a HC in a really down Big 10 makes you such a hot commodity.

Doesn't make sense at all, yet teams are lining up for him. He won't leave Penn State, the dude is the savoir of that program and won't damage his rep. That and he's loyal to them.

Whoa...didn't expect that.

Come back to Tampa! I'd be so happy if Lovie replaced Sheridan.
Lovie is going to be an HC next year. He has far too good of a reputation. He is a great defensive mind who has been the part of a SuperBowl team as a DC and HC. He has established himself as one of the 10 best coaches in the NFL.

I know it's a pipe dream, but let me dream! Laughing

He's going to be a hot commodity for sure.

Wish they would have kept him but after two 2nd half collapses in a row he didn't do himself any favors.

So if GB won Lovie would have kept his job...ok.

I think this is a terrible move. Lovie is a darn good coach.

IDK. I always liked him but this team should have been in the playoffs a lot more and contended for a Super Bowl this year. Can't say it's a bad move.

86 wins in 9 seasons. Basically avg 10 wins a season. Team always in contention for the playoffs.

ESPN have reported that the Eagles and the Browns are interested. Then the Jags wanted to interview him last year (he didn't want to work with Gabbart). Then there is the 'New England' connection for Emery and the Bears.

Mike McCarthy just got 1 more win against the Bears this season, his inability to challenge a bad call in the 2nd quarter just cost Lovie Smith his job.

Lovie has been the most underrated coach in the NFL for years. Maybe I'm just grossly misevaluating talent, but the Bears have had mediocre personnel for years outside of their veterans (due to LOLesque GMing from the chronically overrated Angelo). To me that team chronically over-achieved. I suppose they just wanted to change the regime for new blood, which is fine, but its going to be hard to follow up what he did.
