Although there is no Peyton Manning in free agency, should Christian Ponder be forced to at least compete for his job next year even if the Vikings finish with a winning record or even make the post-season?

The fact that in an 8 game span that Adrian Peterson may have more rushing yards than the QB has passing yards in this era where all the rules favor the passing game is astounding.

Who is better at this point? Unless you're meaning if they are a playoff team now, they replace him after the season.

Certainly it would have to be next year. I don't mean with 2 games left this season.

They should at least make him compete for the job in training camp next year. You can't have QB who can't throw for more yards than his RB over a whopping 7 games

Maybe a one or two game fluke but not 7 games

I wouldn't give up much in terms of draft picks looking for a replacement this offseason. There isn't going to be anybody out there who could get us to the promised land (other than the guy in my sig, of course). Smile

Rather than spend a high price in draft picks for a trade, I'd rather see us just improve the receiving corps and the OG's through FA and the draft.

We can see after next year what options are out there for a franchise QB. That's the problem when you panic and reach at a position of need - especially QB. You're stuck investing time into him until you can find a replacement that makes sense.

If Bray is there in the 3rd and assuming we draft a Tennessee receiver, then I say let him compete for the starting role.

Should? Maybe, but if there was a time to do it, it was a couple of weeks ago. So maybe, but it won't happen.

I just feel sorry for Adrian Peterson because he's on pace to join Barry Sanders as the only all-time great who doesn't even sniff any post-season success.

For instance when you look at the all-time rushing list

Emmitt Smith
Walter Payton
Barry Sanders
Curtis Martin
LaDainian Tomlinson

Jerome Bettis
Erick Dickerson
Tony Dorsett
Marshall Faulk
Edgerrin James

Marcus Allen
Franco Harris
Thurman Thomas
Fred Taylor
John Riggins

Corey Dillon
Warrick Dunn
Ricky Waters
Jamal Lewis
Thomas Jones

You're talking about a lot of guys who if they didn't win the Super Bowl, at least made the Super BOwl or if they didn't make the Super Bowl they at least made a conference championship game or two.

Adrian Peterson? Not so much. And if they go forward with Ponder they make be stuck in that boat for the remaining number of years that Adrian Peterson can play at an elite level

The Vikings should just draft the best QB available in the 1st round and not look back...

Well the advantage is that it's not like it's a big financial commitment to rookie QBs anymore. So it should be a little easier to admit you were wrong about a guy and move on.

Sure. A competition never hurt anyone. I don't think any of it is his fault this year though. No weapons. Bad pass protection. I think he'll be nice when he gets some support.
