The hang-up within NFL circles has been that, at the time the CBA was agreed upon in 2011, the NFLPA pre-approved HGH testing on the condition that it could independently "verify" the methods by which the testing was performed. It was essentially a delay tactic in the hopes that they could brush the issue under the rug until the NFL stopped pushing for it.

Now that there is a sports league with an approved method of testing, the NFLPA's lost a lot of leverage on this.

The issue? While I think it is likely that athletes in every major sport use HGH, it would not surprise me in the least to learn that a significant portion of pro football players use HGH. I think this could be a huge looming issue for the NFLPA.

Additionally, this could have further-reaching repercussions against players than the immediate suspension issue. If the NFL has evidence that use is widespread and that it has carried on for a prolonged period of time, this is mitigating evidence in the class-action concussion suits that the NFL is facing.

The NFL would then be able to say that players knowingly consumed or allowed other players to be consumed substances that increased the size, strength, and speed at which human beings could play the game of football. They can then allege that this activity greatly increased the likelihood of concussions -- and thus players share a more significant burden of the blame in this suit.

It might not be enough to win a summary judgment hearing, but it will likely heavily encourage much more palatable settlement talks for the NFL.

While this is an interesting topic, the reaches to the NFL are speculative at best. These sort of developments CAN act as a first domino to fall, but we will have to wait and see prior to opening this topic up in NFL News.

General seems like a better spot for it.

The NFLPA won't rush to get this testing into the NFL be sure of that. I guarantee people would be shocked to find out the number of Athletes in general but especially in the NFL using HGH and other supliments that beat the current testing. Many revered and praised by the masses for miraculous comebacks from injury.

Nah. They'd have to shut down the league and start all over.

That's just it, though.

The NFLPA has been dragging its feet on the issue for over a year, contending that they're dubious about the proposed methods of testing, citing a lack of widespread implementation. With the MLB now using HGH testing, the NFLPA cannot stand on that leg any longer.

If it's good enough for the MLB, it's good enough for the NFL.

As for the latter part of your post, I agree. The likelihood that a huge chunk of NFL players are using HGH is high.

I hope so. We need to get all of these out of sports and society in general.

Haha no kidding, though I think the most rampant abuse of the stuff happens at the high school and college levels.
