The difference is that Smith is a better coach than Angelo is a GM. At least Smith could fix his deficiency by hiring the right OC.
| Quote: | | There were no character issues prior to the draft that surfaced with either player. Benson has been a thousand yard back most if not all the years after he left the Bears. He never had a complete season with the Bears. He was cut because of the legal issues not because he sucked. |
Cedric Benson was taken with the #4 pick in the draft. If you take a HB that highly, you expect him to be more than mediocre to average. Benson never was. Even when he was a 1000 yard back, he wasn't considered a good HB.
| Quote: | | I have no idea what that is supposed to mean. It is funny though that when a GM does go outside the box and pick someone not consensus he gets reamed from all sides. |
By the media...and then when the picks pan out, the media kisses his butt.
Which is part of being a GM. Making the picks that will get you criticized because they're the best thing for the organization.
| Quote: | | And that was all Jerry's idea? Or did the coaches have a role in letting them go? It was common knowledge that Martz's (Lovie's boy) did not want Olsen. |
Olsen was let go because of Martz, no doubt about that. Danieal Manning wasn't though.
| Quote: | | Williams came to the Bears long after Haynes and Grossman were gone. Haynes was a huge bust but he looked like he was the real deal when drafted. He had a great college career, very smart, great character, tore up the Senior Bowl and looked like a potential All Pro. Rex took us to the SB. |
I'm quite aware of that. Williams was chosen in the 1st round the year they chose Forte. Which was the point I was making. In the years they took those great players, they made terrible choices with their first round picks.
| Quote: | | That is true even though Angelo did not miss on "the vast majority" of his picks. |
Now you're not being honest. He missed on around 70% of his picks. _________________

Angelo is not even in the running anymore

Jets doing 2nd interviews Tues. would expect guys like Omar Khan, Russ Ball, Scott Cohen to be in the mix. Sounds like Jerry Angelo is not. _________________
